Beer bread

DH has a whole bunch of beer in the fridge that I'm never going to drink since I hate the taste of beer. I was thinking about making beer bread and sending some to him in a care package. My question is, do you think it would be okay by the time it got overseas or do you think it would get moldy? I'd hate to send it and have him open moldy bread. The ingredients are basically flour, sugar, beer, and butter if that makes a difference, and it's a really dense bread.

I love beer bread! I think it usually lasts about a week before it starts to mold, how long does it usually take your packages to get to your H?

I don't know how long it will take as I haven't sent him anything yet. He left a few weeks ago and I just got his address.

  • Iwould try to vacuum seal it, but you may need to check the list of things that are ok to send. Depending on the country they may consider beer bread contraband (according to the country) because it has alcohol in it.

It is a very sweet idea.

  • Honestly, sending beer bread isn't going to be an issue because of the alcohol.  Really, are you going to write....beer bread....on the customs form?  No.  You write bread.

But I agree with the other girls, seal it well and freeze it.  I think during the winter months it might just make it:)

  • Bake it in a jar! I bake bread/cakes/pies etc in mason jars when H is deployed. If made properly, these baked goods can last up to a year unopened. If you Google "Cake in a jar" then you should be able to find steps on how to do it and these would apply to bread as well.
