Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Mama/dada

My lo is almost 8 months and is not really saying much. He babbles but nothing really comes out. He doesn't form any sort of word like mama or dada. Anyone else's lo not doing this either?

Re: Mama/dada

  • DS doesn't have words either. He makes sounds like hey, hi, hee, ah-goo, boo, dee, etc.

  • I think my son's first word was uh-oh.  He still says it.  And then he would babble mama and dada.  My favorite DVD was Baby Einstein First Signs.  He used it more when he was 1 years old, but it was cute to see him sign and use words.  And now that he is 2 years old, he is speaking in more sentences, and he has an opinion---"No like that."

And my 9 month old daughter is not even babbling yet.

  • My LO says "Daddy" and "Hi" but that is about it. I want her to say "Mama" so bad :(

  • My lo said mama at 4 months and dada at 6 months. He says it to the other babies in day care.
  • Don't worry! Our little guy started really 'dada-ing' around that time. And now he's doing it constantly and saying 'mamaaaa' too (just a few weeks later.) It happens so quickly!

  • DS is babbling a lot. Especially when he wants a diaper change.

We've heard "mama" and "dada" but I don't think he has attached any meaning to them. There's also a lot of "buhbuhbuh" and squealing and cooing. And "ahhh bluh bluh bluh!" against his fist or any toy he can put to his mouth.

  • DS started saying mama two weeks ago but only says it when he's tired and ornery and wants me to pick him up. He said dada for the first time on Friday after prompting from DH. He's only been saying it when he's around too. I keep telling DS "Can you say mama happy?"
  • I can't wait till he starts talking!! Thanks all for your input!
  • Mine says mamamamama, but thats pretty much it! I was really excited he started with that sylabol, instead of dadadadad!
