bad mommy...

DD has been waking up at 12:30am once a week for the past month or so and I try everything when she wakes up and nothing works! I try rocking her but as soon as I put her back in her bed she screams. I tried laying on the couch with her and she just thinks its time to play. I even brought her to bed with us tonight and after an hour she started flailing around and was so uncomfortable. So now I just put her in her bed and she was crying but not too hard so I just ran out......I am sitting on the chair waiting for her to finally realize that it is bedtime and that she can sleep on her own just fine BUT it is not fun to listen to her get so upset :/

Anyone else going through this or have any other suggestions for things for me to try??? Thanks for listening as always!!!!

  • Sounds like my week, except with multiple wake ups.

  • Yes the exact same thing happened to us, about a month ago and we couldn't figure anything out for DS.  This went on for like 2 or 3 weeks, and we finally went with Ferber and after a week, he's been sleeping great ever since!  Note- we were also having trouble putting him down at night as well.
  • DD2 has been doing the same thing, but she has all 4 molars coming in. I also think she is in some kind of growth spurt, she is a constant eating machine.  I've given her a sippy cup twice this week because she wouldn't calm down.

  • My DS did this same thing. I started giving him warm milk in his sippy cup. After a week of this, and me being afraid he would get used to having the milk, I started giving him more milk just before bed. It was just enough to get him through the night. GL, I hope this helps you!

In case you need to know, I put about 5 oz of milk in a mug and microwave it for 25-30 seconds. Then I transfer it to his sippy cup.

  • Like others have said it could be teething pain. We had issues with LO waking and now most nights we give him a dose of ibuprofen before bed (as recommended by pedi) and he normally sleeps through the night.  GL
  • Thanks for the tips! Next time I will try the cup with water and some more milk before bed :)
  • DS started waking in the night around 10 months.  I started getting up with him, feeding, playing, until he'd go back to sleep quietly (and not wake up DH w/ crying).  Big mistake, let me tell ya!  I though it was a phase he'd outgrow, but he didn't. After a month we let him CIO.  Worked like a charm with just a couple of tough nights.
