L turned 2 this week. She still cries for the paci. I can get it away from her in the am and once she's at daycare she's distracted enough to forget it. Come nap time, she will not nap without and then insists in having in the rest of the day. I cut a hole in one didn't deter her. We have days where we can keep her occupied and she only asks for it a couple of times but its rare. We tried taking it away completely and she cried so hard she threw up twice! Some people tell me she will just grow out of it and its better than sucking her thumb. Her speech is fine, she talks a mile a minute pulls the paci to talk, but I feel like she's really too big for it ... Please share ur mommy advice!
Re: Paci still??!!! Help!
My DD is 25 months and still has hers. She is obsessed with it. I plan to take it away soon...I think. lol
When DS was two we bagged up all the paci's and took him to Toys R Us and explained to him that he could pick out any toy he wanted but he had to pay with his paci's in order to get his big boy toy. It worked rather well. He asked for his paci for about a week but because he knew we didn't have them and that Toys R Us did there was no tantrum. When we tried cold turkey at home he would just scream until we gave in. So over all it was a success.
We have a strict soother in bed rule. When they leave their crib they have to leave the soother there. They do ask sometimes to go to their crib so they can have a soother (usually when they are not feeling well or feeling sucky) and I allow that but to come out of the crib they must leave the soother there.
If they ask while we are putting on jammies and going through the bedtime routine I will allow them to have it but that's usually 20 minutes or so before bed.
We do not take them out of the house.
I am not ready to take it away, it brings them comfort and they sleep through the night!

We did cold turkey at 18 months, and it worked great! The first few days/nights were rough, but we stood our ground and she has been paci free ever since.
If you go that route, expect plenty of crying/begging/etc, but just stay strong. It was worth it!
Good luck
