Babies: 6 - 9 Months

8m old sleep regression

My poor dd will not go to sleep, the past 3 nights she has been fighting bedtime for hours! Naps are bad too.  She has never been easy to put down for naps or bedtime, she's so interested in everything that its always been hard to get her to sleep. But this is crazy! She was dead asleep (from not wanting to nap today) but as soon as I laid her down in her crib she woke up and its been crying ever since. I've read books, nursed, rocked, sung lullabies. Tried gas drops and reflux medicine, no teeth coming in. Even after a bottle, still not sleepy.  Sometimes she loves nursing to sleep, other times she just needs to put herself to sleep bc she just wont fall asleep while I'm in there. Weve done CIO, some days she'll fall asleep no problem other days she screams and cries. I feel terrible, like a horrible mom. But this past few days she is definitely worse. I dont want my baby to cry for hours, I've gone back in, Ive tried everything.  I'm desperate for help:(

Re: 8m old sleep regression

  • Sorry. Hoepfully it passes soon. We are in the same boat (kinda). DS use to sleep really well through the night. However, over the last few weeks he has been waking up multiple times and not wanting to go back to sleep. He has also been hard to get to take a nap. I am hoping that this is just a stage and that it will be over soon. Maybe call your doctor and see what they say?? GL

  • I feel like my son has a sleep regression once a month. This time around I decided to buckle down. I did CIO for about three days -- plugged in my earphones, put on some music, and checked the video monitor every couple of songs. He did really well -- It took him 30-40 minutes to fall asleep for night wakings two nights in a row, then the past two nights, I hear him wake up and he literally falls back asleep within a minute or two. And for the past three or four nights I've laid him down awake and he's fallen asleep almost instantly. I'm still allowing an early morning feed between 4-5.

I think my worst mistake has been inconsistency, due to the fact that I'm exhausted and oftentimes I will just go in and nurse him so I can get back to sleep. But in reality, that has only been making my problem worse. Hopefully what we are doing now sticks. Just try to be consistent and hopefully things will get better for you soon.

  • I have been having the same issue with my LO.  She will not nap unless I am holding her.  I am hoping this is just a phase, otherwise I am in trouble...  Good Luck to you!
