If your LO is walking...

Austin started taking steps about a week ago and this morning he was taking about 10-20 steps at a time. I am wondering at what point we should buy him walking shoes. I am going to take him to Stride Rite and get measured... can we go this weekend, or should we wait a bit longer? Thank you!

  • Jackson started walking at just over 11 months. I got him a pair of Robeez when he was 10 months and only crawling. 3 reasons - they were on sale - he was crawling everywhere and it was starting to take a toll on his socks - we live in Wisconsin and his feet were always cold, especially when we'd go places. So it's really up to you...there is no wrong time to take him

  • DS walks about that way and I haven't gotten him shoes (I did one pair of Robeez but he wore them one time only, he takes them off.  Bare feet/socks are ideal for babies.  They don't need shoes until they will be outside IMO.  Having said that, DD had unusually small feet (she is very petite).  Shoes were a requirement in the 1 yo room at MDO.  I got her Robeez in the smallest size and worried about her being on the gravel playground but she was totally not bothered by it.

  • I bought DD a pair of stride rites a few weeks ago and then she started cruising more and now she is walking. She loves to have them on and will bring them to me. We don't really use them in the house and she wears them at daycare, although she takes them off there usually.

  • If you will be taking him out places he will be walking, you could go now.  He'll be walking all over the place in no time.  Just use the shoes when you go out and keep him barefoot in the house.

  • Ok thank you all! He needs shoes to protect his feet when we leave the house because all of his are too small. I wasn't sure if I should get him walking shoes or not, but I'm going to go with the walking shoes. Thank you!

  • DD is walking so my mom bought her a pair from Stride Rite for her birthday.  She wants to get down and walk everywhere so I have started putting shoes on her when she goes to daycare or we are going somewhere.

Stride Rite has a great early walkers line.  That is what we have.

  • My daughter started walking at 9.5 months. We got her real shoes a couple weeks later. She also doesn't wear them all the time, mainly if we go somewhere or go outside.

Congrats on having a little walker!! :-)

That's what we have too, and I love them! The bottom of the shoe is softer than regular shoes, but harder than say, Robeez. We do have a few Robeez pairs that he wears at home too.
