Re: FFFC/UP

  • so, last night Kyler was playing on the floor, and we recently re-arranged our living room, and the tv was moved to a wall where there is not a cable hook up, so we have to have the cable company come out and put one in.  Well, right now the cable is chillin' out across the floor. and it seems to be the best toy ever to Kyler.  I know infants shouldn't be playing with wires and what not, but its a cable cord, it's thick, and he is playing with it right at our feet, so I can get to him if he does something wrong.  He doesn't wrap it or anything like that, he just likes to play on his tummy and smack it into the wood floor for the noise.

I won't stop him from playing with it until he tries to: wrap it, put it in his mouth, etc... It's the cheapest things you wouldn't realize that make the best toys haha...

Probably a mild UO but whatever, I can't think of one right now.

I refuse to move things just so LO can't get to them. Take for example, the cat food dish. He was going to it probably 50 times a day so I pretty much spent ALL DAY, EVERY DAY redirecting him from the darn thing. I know the easier thing to do would be to move it, but I wanted him to learn not to touch it.

(I kept hearing "oh, you will have to move it to the basement, etc")

And a week later? He crawls right by it without even attempting to grab the food! I mean, he might go for it once or twice a day, but I can deal with that.

babies are smarter than people think... just like cats/dogs.

They WILL learn what they can and cannot play with.  We have 4 picture frames on the bottom shelf of our tv stand which is level to the floor, and he kept going for them, but only a handful of times, and once he knew I'd redirect him, he wouldn't go back...

I think it's better to keep the stuff where it normally is, that way they know not to mess with it, rather than moving it, and once you put it back, they will want to discover it all over again!

  • We have hardwood floors throughout the house (except for the bedrooms) and DH does not let DD crawl on the hardwood because he does not want her to faceplant and hurt herself. I don't want her to hurt herself either, but she very rarely faceplants anymore so I am not all that concerned. So....when DH is not home I let her roam wherever she wants (within reason). I mean we can't keep her contained to the bedrooms or the rug in the living room forever!

  • Our house is child proof meaning I have nothing priceless out that I'd be heart broken if it got broken BUT we are not baby proofed. I have many things at kid level that they cant touch. Outlets are plugged and the stairs are gated on the bottom but that's about it like I said awhile ago I don't believe in cabinet locks. My kids know better

I let Lucas eat things I never gave his brothers this young. He's had cake, cookies, ice cream, cheese, gold fish crackers, chilli and other things I can't remember.

  • As far as child proofing, I agree with you ladies as far as things that can harm her, obviously will child proof, stairs, outlets and cabinets etc. But other things will hopefully teach her not to play with, because to be honest I have a close friend whose kids are bad with that, they come over and destroy my house and she says not a word.

As for fff, I def gave dd some of my fries from chick Fil a the other day, we rarely eat fast food but I had a craving and she was reaching for them saying "mmmmo" which is her version of more, I caved and gave her some. A piece of fried food here and there never hurt anyone right?!

  • A friend of mine who refuses to put winter tires on her car just got into an accident and totaled her car. Luckily her and her kids are alright, but while people were patting her on the head and saying "poor you" on FB I wanted to tell her how irresponsible I think she is. We live in Canada, it's winter, get a clue. This is why I had no problem with the law when I lived in Quebec where winter tires were required by a certain date. People (like this girl) have called that law a money making scheme, I call it common freaking sense. They are just looking out for people who choose to be safe and trying to protect them where possible from lazy/cheap people who don't want to bother. I wish it was the law where we live now, it would prevent so many accident. Her kids could have been seriously injured in such a preventable situation (the roads were not even that bad that day). Makes me want to shake these people.
