My only experience is with Follistim, so I was just wondering what the usual doses were, what doses it comes in (boxed), how much it generally costs per dose etc... I see it has a pen, which I really liked about Follistim.

Can you fill me in?

I could help a little bit - the gonal-f pen is very similar to the follistim pen - but dose increments are a bit different though - gonal-f uses a 37.5 dose increment and follistim a 25 dose increment. Also the cartidge does not come out of the gonal-f pen - each one is a new pen (not like follistim where you have one pen and refill with new cartridges). Other than that they essentially are the same thing. I've only used the 450IU and 900IU gonal-f pens - whereas follistim has the 300, 600 and 900 IU.

I can't help you with OOP prices - since I now have ins coverage - but from my memory I think Gonal-f is cheaper than Follistim - but I could be totally wrong.

I have to say that I prefer follistim pen - if only because it seems like less waste and you have that little bit more control with the smaller dose increments. But its so minor that I don't think it makes a difference with IVF at all - since you are on high doses anyway. I'm now using gonal-f b/c that is what my insurance perfers.

Hey Breezy - I have always purchased my pens in 900 unit boxes (900 units is one pen). - there may be a smaller unit box (like for 300 units) but I have no experience with it.The increments are in 12.5 units. I have seen women take as little as 37.5 units a night or as much as (meaning me) women who take 300 units a night. The pens cost around $950 for each pen (yes ouch) but there is a discount I used to get through Freedom Fertility for $25 a pen - I know it isn't much but I take where I can get it.

Butting in: Just thought I'd mention that, at least with Follistim, there is anywhere from 75-150 IU extra per cartridge, so in that case, it's better to order several 300 unit cartridges. I did that my last cycle and used a LOT less (in terms of cartridges) than I expected.

I'm not sure if it's the same for Gonal-F, but it's definitely worth researching (your nurse should know) before buying. It could easily save you hundreds of dollars.
