October 2011 Moms

House-hunting, moving, trying to sell, etc.

Seems like a lot of us have recently moved or are moving (or maybe I am just noticing b/c that is what is going on for me).  Our house sold super-fast and we just moved in with my parents until we find a place.  I'm about 90% sure we'll build a house in a subdivision in the same county we're in, but we haven't signed a contract yet.  At any rate, I'm anxious to get back in my own place!

What's going on for everyone else?  If you've moved within the past year or so, how did your LO adjust?  Unfortunately, DS has been sick this week so it's hard to tell if his fussiness is from not feeling well or being confused about why we are always at Grandma's!

  • We're looking for a place to buy.  We currently rent, which makes it easier since we don't have to worry about showings and putting our house on the market and all of that fun stuff.  I spend a ridiculous amount of time looking at listings online.  It's hard to get DH to take an interest, though.  I'm hoping we can find a place soon, since I'm beyond ready to have a more permanent home and to stop throwing our money away in the form of rent.  (I'm also beyond ready to not have BIL live with us, and it definitely is contributing to my eagerness to buy.)

  • We may be in the near future. DH is currently interviewing for a job in CT and we may be moving. If we do move we will have a house to sell, and one to find so that we can rent. Luckily this new company has told him that moving and selling this house are all negotiable for this new job.

Just thinking about it makes me feel a little sick since it will be so busy.

  • Our house has been on the market for 6 months, tons of showings but no offers. Our listing actually just expired yesterday and we are in the process of finding a new realtor to list with. I am so desperate to sell this house and move. We are trying to move about 2 hours away, back to the area we are originally from so we will finally be closer to family and friends. Plus when we move I will get to SAH!!!! I'm getting really frustrated feeling like we're stuck. It's hard to have your house on the market for this long with a LO and trying to keep it clean all the time. I wish I could just SAH now but we can't swing it until we move. Cross your fingers for us?

When we do sell, we might live with my MIL temporarily and then buy another townhouse or smallish house. MH already has a job lined up because he can transfer to another branch of the same company.

  • We are just starting to look for houses now and finishing up a few projects at our current house so that we can list it. I am very nervous to have a house on the market because always having a show ready home is going to be a big pain. Also housing prices are ridiculous here right now and I am nervous to spend that much on a house... But I guess that is the only choice we have. We are also considering building, but that will cost us even more, so we will see.

Not unless the house we buy has an in-law suite, complete with kitchen and bathroom and separate entrance.  I can't handle sharing my bathroom or kitchen with him any more, he's a total slob.  Most of the houses in our price range don't have in-law suites, but there is actually one that I'd like to look at.

  • Right before we started to TTC.  We listed our old house with no success.  We decided to rent our place out  so we moved in with my parents and put an offer in on our current house.  It was a short sale and the process took about 7 months.  We moved in when Violet was about 2 months old so she adjusted well.  I think my older kids were so happy to only have 2 adults telling them what to do they did not mind the adjustments.  With all said and done things were hard but they turned out great.  We absolutely love our neighborhood and never thought we end up in such a nice area.  The kids got to go back to their old elementary school and we are swimming in space, with about a 1000+ more sq. ft.  Good luck!

Have fun with your parents! [heavy with sarcasm]

  • We really need to move out of our condo, like yesterday. Once I have been at my new job (starting in 2 weeks !!) for a month or so, we will start looking for a house. With DD & 2 dogs, we really need to buy a house then seel our condo. There is no way to keep our condo "show ready" with the craziness we currently have. Plus, we can't exactly move in with one of our parents with the 2 dogs ( ILs have a cat & our dogs hate cats, my parents already have 2 dogs so 4 dogs would be a bit crazy).

  • We've been renting forever before finally bought a house last year. We've been doing extensive remodeling but I think we are finally ready to move in in a couple of weeks. We still need to give our landlord a 30 day notice which I'm hoping we will do next week.

I'm so excited to finally have our own house.

having just done this, I would strongly recommend that prior to accepting the offer, have an actual moving company come do a walkthru of your house and give you an estimate on a full pack move, so your dh can negotiate for that actual number, plus any other costs, like shipping your car or cars, trips to CT to look for houses, a storage unit in case you need a places to stash your stuff, etc. Make sure someone COMES TO YOUR HOUSE and gives you an estimate based on an inventory of items you will be moving. Don't just go by square footage and number of rooms. Trust me.
