Rolling in crib

My LO has been a crib wiggler from day 1 of us putting her there to sleep. Her head always ends up where her feet were. The first few nights it terrified me in the fear of her pushing herself up against the side of the crib while moving, or moving in a position that makes it difficult to breathe. We have the Angel Care baby monitor that detects movement, so it makes me feel a little better knowing we would be alerted if anything were to happen. However, she is almost rolling over so my fear is that she will do that in her crib. Is this okay at the age of 2 1/2 months? Or should I purchase one of those sleep positioners? Or is that something else that may cause SIDS?

Re: Rolling in crib

  • K isn't rolling over yet, but our pedi said on Wednesday that once she does, she doesn't care how she sleeps.

  • You don't need to be afraid of your baby rolling in her crib. It's normal and fine. I would not put a sleep positioner in there with her. Take everything but the bedsheet out of her crib and she'll be fine. If she bonks her head on the side of the crib, put a bumper pad in. Breathable bumpers work great.

  • Even though she could roll over, LO1 never rolled onto her belly in her sleep until she was much older, I think 6m or so. By this age she was able to get herself out of any compromising position. I stopped swaddling and just made sure she wore warm pjs.

We don't have bumpers on her crib and I know she's bonked her head on it, but it hasn't caused any damage. I think they say not to use any bumpers anymore including breathable ones.

  • As long as you don't have bumpers or bedding in the crib it should be fine. She won't have anything she can move up against blocking her breathing.
