STTN

Hallie has been waking up at 4:30 every night for a few weeks now. We transitioned her to her crib last night until 4:30, the back to her swing. We decided to put her in her swing because she tends to wake up if she's put in her crib in the middle of the night, but falls asleep in it just fine.

I also gave her an extra 2 ounces last night before bed to see if she'd push the 4:30 feeding back to 6:30 or so when I need to wake up anyways. She still woke up right at 4:30.

If you have a baby STTN, what time do you lay them down and what time do they wake up? Also, did you make any changes to eating habits or anything that encouraged LO to STTN? I feel like she's just waking out of habit now.

Re: STTN

  • Audrey nurses to sleep. We start around 8pm and she is out by 9. I change her, swaddle her and feed her in my bed (while I watch tv). I also keep waking her if she doezes off too early so she gets a good feed in. I then take her in and lay her in her crib and she sleep until 6:30 or 7pm.

  • We have a bedtime routine. He gets a bath every other night and after the bath (or around 7:30 for the off nights) I change his diaper, lotion him up with Johnson's bedtime lotion, put his pjs and sleep sack on, and then we read a book. I started this when we transitioned into his crib and it works like magic! He will whimper/fuss a little bit, but not cry and essentaily puts himself to sleep.

Sometimes depending on his feeding schedule that day he will have his bottle before story time, but he doesn't always eat right before bed. He sleeps from 7:30/8 until 4/5 eats and goes back down until 6:30/7. I don't give him more formula before bed or anything to hold him over.

I should also note that he made his own bedtime. I was aiming to put him down by 9 every night, but he would start getting fussy from being sleepy around 7/7:30 so that what is became!

Annelise just started STTN this week 5 nights so far. She goes to sleep between 89 and wakes up between 67. I notice she sleeps longer the nights I'm able to dream feed her around 10/10:30, but she won't always eat then. One thing I was worried about with CDs was A waking up bc she was wet. So far, that hasn't been a problem, but do you think Hallie might be waking up bc of that? Or hunger like kiraliz said? Just ideas Eta: forgot I was mobile. ::insert smiley:: haha

That's a good point. H was waking up when his diaper was too wet. We now use a bamboo insert layered with a microfiber one for his nighttime diaper and it fixed the problem.

I read, I do believe in my What to Expect the First Year book, to put the next size diaper on them at night. I took the advice not because G was waking up, but because his diaper was so full by the time he woke up that I felt bad. Maybe it is worth a try?

  • She is usually wet by morning but she's very sensitive when awake to it. She only seems interested in nursing at 4:30. I think if she were wet she'd fuss until I changed her. I do put her in overnight CD's.

I may try dream feeding at 10. I usually pump at that time anyways. I just thought giving her the extra ounces at bedtime would help if she was waking out of hunger. I've been tempted to do a dream feed at 10 but I'm scared I'll wake her. I'll give it a shot though!

I can do the 4:30 feeding. I'm just going to be training for a 1/2 marathon here soon and know I'll need as much sleep as I can get.

  • We just started STTN this past week, C nurses at 9ish sometimes falls right to sleep and sometimes needs just an ounce top off and we put her in her rnp at 10:00 and she has been sleeping until about 7...since this started we are scared to put her in the crib we don't want to rock the boat but we have to start somewhere...also I don't know if it is just coincidence but this week we started swaddling with arms in she loves to have her arms out so we have always assumed it to be fine well once we put them in MAGIC!
