What to tell people when they ask what DS wants for his bday?

People have started to RSVP for DS' birthday and are asking what he wants. I've told numerous people clothes...but DH said not to tell any one else that because DS will end up with ugly things and no toys lol.

He received a lot of toys for Xmas so I'm not sure what to say.

Any ideas? What are you getting/have gotten your LOs?

  • I have been telling people her favorite things are puffs and board books. Which is half true, her favorite thing right now is the dogs tennis ball, but I don't want to admit that I let her play with it sometimes :)

  • What about some outdoor toys for when the weather gets warmer? A swing, a slide, some balls to kick around. Or a small chair for your DS if he doesn't have one? Tub toys, larger bath towels. DD is currently loving puzzles, the FP Laugh Learn puppy. I made an Amazon wishlist of ideas [more for me as I saw things so its a weird hodge podge of things]. Those who have asked, I've directed there.

  • You could tell them about toys he can use in 6 months or so.  Nothing says he can only get toys for this age now.  Just store them until he's ready for them.

  • On our [very] short list:
    1218 month clothes
    Books
    Balls

I agree it's hard to tell people, especially since it's less than two months after Christmas!

  • I agree outdoor toys would be great. Stacking cups and books are always great. My mom is getting us a see n say. DD doesn't have one yet and I think she'll love it.

  • Just say a gift card to the local toy store. You'll need it by summer.

  • Im putting right in the invitation no gifts please and if you would like please make a dotation to a charity in lo names
  • I agree with all the PPs...we also told some people that he loves Sesame Street and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse so they could get DVDs or soundtracks.  We asked for Pottery Barn gift cards too, so we can get him an anywhere chair.

  • MIL was telling people walmart gift cards, which I found incredibly tacky (no judgement if some people are ok with that, round these parts it isn't ok)

I have been telling people 24months+ clothes, and that he loves books, and we are currently making him a playroom so any educational toys or wall decals (letters, numbers, colours) are great.

  • We've been saying clothes, teething stuff and musical toys!

  • We're going to ask for gift cards - he needs a new car seat and we can always use diapers and wipes! I'm also going to ask for outdoor toys and MAYBE some clothes. My nephew is only 4 months older so he has more clothes than we know what to do with.

He absolutely loves his dancing Mickey Mouse, so I'm going to ask for the newer one for him.
