Anyone well versed on what's covered and not under FSA?

I had to prepay for my Ob's fees for delivery, I used my FSA card, I got an email to provide a reciept, I submitted a receipt, they have denied the payment, and I have to pay my FSA back. I called their customer service and they told me I can't use my FSA for prepayment. How can I find out if that's true or not?

I don't think you can claim on FSA until after the service is rendered. You should be able to submit the claim later, you will just need to submit the paperwork showing the date of service, amount billed and amount paid.

Yep, this.  Because I assume that if you decided to go to a different OB before your baby was born then the OB may have to refund you part or all of the pre-payment.  (If you were already reimbursed by FSA then you see where the problem would lie.)

  • yeah, my OB office told me the same thing, that if I am going to use FSA for the OB fees that I should not do the normal prepayment that most patients do.  i have to just pay the full fee after delivery.

  • Well that sucks for me then! because, I used my flex card and my dr's office said nothing, now the claim is being denied by the flex account, and I need to reimburese my flex account, but if I don't spend that money by March 15, which baby is due in May, I will lose the money, I can't incumber $1200 medical expenses in 1.5 months!
