Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Naps!

Hey!! My son will be 6 months on Friday so I'm switching over to this board!! :
First off, hello to 69 month mommies!!
I'm a SAHM with 1 baby! He's a big chunky boy!! Weighing nearly 21 lbs and over 30 inches long!! I have muscles from carrying him around! Haha
Anyways, he's a GREAT sleeper at night! I've always had him in a great routine! Bathe, book, bottle, rock and off to sleep! He sleeps 1011 hour stretches! The only problem is, he WON'T nap durin the day!! I've tried letting him CIO one time I felt horrible even though he did fall asleep! Broke my heart! Usually after fighting it for over an hour he'll only fall asleep in my arms! But you see, I'd love to shower, get house work done all that so I can't let him nap in my arms every time! He never fights it at night.. Has been sleeping in his crib since he was 2 months! We even bought black out curtains thinking that would help with nap time... NO! Lol.... Any suggestions!? I think I've tried everything except pulling my hair out ; hehehe.. Or should I not worry about it since he sleeps great at night? He's very fussy if he doesn't get a couple naps though!

Re: Naps!

  • Mine is exactly the same way! My son is in daycare 5 days a week and my "Mary Poppins" sitter gets him to sleep in the blink of an eye. But napping at home doesn't happen . . . until recently. We were shooting for two naps a day, because that is what everyone tells you is right. But recently, I decided I wasn't even going to try. So I kept him up! No car rides, no walks, no snuggling (really hard!) until about 11am. I kept him active, bouncing in his jumper, rolling around, etc. Then I fed/rocked him in a quiet, dark room at 11 and put him to bed because he looked exhausted. I told myself sleep or scream, he is staying in there for at least 1 hour. He cried for less than five minutes and then slept for 2 and a half hours! It was glorious! I'm sure you have tried everything imaginable but CIO is sometimes the best approach. It only hurts the parents. And afterward, he will be in a better mood because he got a nap. It should only take a few times of really crying before he understands that this is nap time. GL!
