Jack has a few food allergies. The allergist told us that you're not really increasing a kid's odds of allergy to peanuts by offering it early. She told us that the reason most pedi's recommend you wait is that because peanuts are a common allergy, more kids will react to them. It's easy to see a reaction in a kid who's a little older because they can tell you they're uncomfortable, rather than looking for a reaction in a baby. But she said that if you're going to be allergic to peanuts, you will be, whether you're exposed to it at 10 months or 10 years. You're either genetically predisposed to the allergy, or not. So I think it's about your comfort level! I know from skin testing that Jack is allergic to peanuts, so we obviously haven't tried PB yet. But my pedi had said otherwise to try it when we feel comfortable. GL!

Yes, we give it. I think we started around 13 months. We do creamy only (pedi said chunky was still a potential choking hazard), and only in thin amounts. It scares me more for the getting-stuck-and-choking part than the allergy part (because he was already exposed to peanut oil and we have no known allergies in our families).

I asked at his 9 month and my pedi said to wait till between 1 and 2 but closer to 1. I asked at 15 months and she said since there is no family history of a nut allergy it was okay. If there was a family history she would've had us wait til he was closer to 3 to try it. Right now the only foods he is not allowed to have, and have not been introduced, is shellfish. She said around 2 for that. I will ask at his 2 year about introducing it.
We tried it at 15 months. She has only had small tastes of it, because she doesn't really care for it. Crazy! I could eat it by the spoonful! The only thing we have not tried is shellfish.
My pedi said to hold off because it was a choking hazard, not because of allergies. That being said, I have tried it a few times, but my LO doesn't like it. Which is unfortunate, because it would be such an easy snack/meal.

This was the first baby my pediatrician said could have any food any time, except wait until 1 yr for honey. It used to be 2yo for peanut butter! I guess their studies on allergies are proving that delaying exposure doesn't help? Anyway, LO's been eating pb forever

I've been giving DD peanut butter for a really long time. At her 6 month appointment, I think, my doctor said I could feed it to her. So I probably gave it to her around then...

My pedi said the only reason to hold off is because its so sticky, it can gag him, so when he gets it, its a very thin coat on bread. I honestly watched him like a hawk after the first few times he had it, in case he had a reaction. No problems though, and he loves it.

We haven't given pb yet. Our pedi said to wait until age 2, but didn't give a reason why. I've never believed that exposing a kid to earlier would make them more allergic (besides, you can grow out of allergies or even develop them later in life!). However, DS does have eczema, and I've heard many stories about pb making it flare up, so I've stayed away from it for the time being.
We did a little after 12 mths. We also did shrimp around that time. My mil has a sh!t ton of allergies, so I was a bit nervous. His first ped said 2 years. The new one said 1 year.

Re: peanut butter
Exactly this. Doctor said to give her whatever/whenever.
Yes! 12 months Bo bay was loving it.
We do Jiffy Natural PB...Organic is not local, so it is not the best, but Ohhh how I love making him PBJs and gerber cheesy poofs!
Do you have a peanut allergy?
Does O?
If not... TRY it!
Bo loves PB on whole wheat toast and bananas!
Who doesn't love Nutella.
Panda, haha!!! Wicked cute.
This. I hope they will give us the go at 18 months!
Us too, with the exception of things that might be choking hazards, like whole grapes or whole peanuts.
I do not like peanut butter or nutella. they are both nasty.
I do however like biscoff!
Gave it to Kai around 11 months, he loved/loves it.
Held off until 15 months with Halle, and she proved to be allergic.
