When I was 12 weeks pregnant with DS1 I lost my job. Today, 35 weeks
and 2 days pregnant with DS2, downsized again! What the frick! I'm a
high risk pregnancy any way so the stress is a nice touch. Pray for my
sanity. 2 kids and I've never gotten to have an actual maternity leave because I lose my job instead. I give up.

That is awful. I'm sorry.
There were layoffs at my job today too. Do you work for an insurance company by any chance? Luckily I wasn't affected this time, but I have a feeling I might be losing my job before the end of the year.
Onlymeggan's DH here...
No, she doesn't work in insurance... she worked for a large scale fertilizer/golf course maintenance company.
Yes, she is getting a severance package that basically is 1 month of pay.
Glad she received a little severance but I'm just so sorry. Please give her a real hug for us. :-(
I know how stressful this can be. I lost my job 6 days into my maternity leave with J. (It's a complicated story.) And I remember thinking, great, wth are we going to do now? Big changes are always really scary and stressful, especially when they are unexpected, but let me remind you that you pulled through before!
Do you have anyone to do playdates with? My J doesn't go to dc, so we have a group of moms & toddlers that we do things with. I met most of them through meetup.com, so that is a place to start if you are worried about your DS missing out on social time.
And like I said before, if you can claim unemployment that will help some. But with that you have to be actively looking for work. You might be able to claim some before baby is born, take a break after baby is born, and then claim again when you start looking for work.
::big hugs:: for you! I know that things are going to be tough for a while, so let us know how we can help. Even if we're just shoulders to cry on.
My little man at 0-1-2
BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
Oh my goodness... I'm so sorry to hear this
Hang in there, love. It will all work out in the end. The most important thing now is taking care of yourself and your little family. Hugs.
I'm sorry. I lost my job at 36weeks with K because we didn't win a project they thought we would. I wasn't going to get paid leave anyway so we had saved up but that extra month really hit us hard.
I did look for jobs before K was born (even did my required weekly minimum search the week she was born) so I was able to collect unemployment but it was still not enough. I continued to look for the first 6 weeks pp and then after that I was searching hard. I was really lucky and found a job at 9weeks pp where they wanted me to start a few weeks later so I got to be home for almost 12 weeks. And it's my dream job. Hopefully you have the same good luck!
Enjoy your next few weeks with DS - looking back I'm really glad I had that time.
Sounds bad - you can actually not get fired (unless the boss have a REALLY strong reason to fire specificity YOU) in Norway.
Do you not have ANY rights`?
