After a perfectly normal first tri screen and NT scan, my OB called on Tuesday to tell me that my 2nd round bloodwork showed an extremely high AFP and a high risk for neural tube defects (1:14). They moved my anatomy scan up to this morning. We were mentally prepared for spina bifida, but we were not mentally prepared to be told that our baby functionally has no brain. There isn't much to do at this point except plan the next steps. We are waiting to hear from the medical group our MFM refers to in these situations.
DH and I are really sad, probably a little in shock, but know that we are comfortable with what we have to do. This just isn't how I planned to feel after my A/S....my big concern was whether or not we were going to stay Team Green.
