GD and Medication

Mobile: GD and Medication

Well, I have to see my Dr. tomorrow to discuss medication to help control my sugars.
I have heard that the pill is a better option because you are more likely to stay on insulin after birth. Is this true??
Also, wouldnt the pill be better for the baby rather than direct insulin?? I am new to all of this, and just was looking at thoughts/opinions on these medication options. TIA

Re: GD and Medication

  • My Drs told me insulin could better control the sugars.  I was also told that I will most likely stop the insulin immediately after delivery.  There was a similar discussion on this board a few days ago.  I think the subject was Glyuride v Insullin.

  • My OB doesn't use oral medication, because he feels there is tighter control with insulin.

I had to use insulin with my two previous pregnancies, but my blood sugar returned to normal before I left the hospital.

  • Like PP, my doc says it is easier to fine tune your dose with insulin. Also, the insulin won't cross the placenta.
