We are remodeling our kitchen & we are stuck on the backsplash. I was leaning toward an all travertine stone backsplash. Now my DH wants to add an accent row of glass tiles. The rest of the remodel was simple, but the backsplash has me stumped. Please help!!!
Ps. We have dark cherry cabinets, medium walnut wood floors, medium-dark portofino granite, medium gray walls.
Re: NBR. Tell me about your kitchen backsplash
When we remodeled the kitchen at our old house I really wanted travertine, but was so nervous about how difficult it'd be to clean. We ended up using a porcelain tile made to look like travertine; it was still a PITA to clean.
Now we're in the midst of remodeling the kitchen in our new home. I'm going with a plain, white, glass subway tile.

Backsplashes are so hard, there are SO many choices!
In my last house we had a dark cabinets, granite that was lighter w/ black & darker brown flecks, light wood floors... we did something like this:

But we had glass accents (basically a diamond of 4 of the small square glass pieces in a brown that worked w/ our cabinets) at hte intersection of the tiles, maybe every 3-4 intersections, midway b/c countertop & upper cabinet (if that makes sense). I felt like it made the uniform beige tile a little more interesting.
That being said, travertine stone can mean a lot of differnet things, are you using larger tiles, small ones, is there a lot of variety in color? I think if there is a lot of variety in color, I would not do a row of glass b/c it sounds really busy. Perhaps some accent pieces...but if it is pretty uniform in color I think that the row of glass would be really nice & add a little interest. Depending on your style, there are those other stone border type pieces you could use to creat a 'stripe' or use as accent pieces also. if you have a big open area of any kind, you can do one of those framed areas (we are doing this above our sink in our basement wet bar- neutral tile laid horizontally but then a rectangle above the sink of the same tile laid on an angle, with a 'frame' around it of something they call chair rail...
GL! look at lots of pix online...houzz is a great site for ideas.
