I just go back from the dentist and they found something weird in my x-ray, below the root, off to the side. It's like a growth. They are sending it to the oral surgeon and are asking to get a 3D xray of it. They wouldn't or couldn't say what it could be. Do I need to be freaking out? I'm kind of freaking out. I don't want to Google.

Don't google. Go to the oral surgeon appointment. It could be a cyst, it could be an infection, it could be several things. The reason they are saying the x-ray isn't 100% diagnostic on this is because it isn't. You do need a specialized test. Also, you dentist has no idea what it is, but has a few ideas on what it could be, which is why they referred you to a specialist to make a proper diagnosis. You OS & dentist will talk after your appointment & then both people will be able to give you actual information.
Don't worry too much. No one knows anything besides the fact that you need to see a specialist to properly evaluate what that abnormality is.
No need to worry and definitely don't Google. I'm assuming they are sending you for a CBCT which is the right call. It could be a ton of different things but it almost always turns out to be a cyst. I would put money on dentigerous cyst since it is "connected" by the roots of a tooth. Of course it could be something else entirely. Your dentist did the right thing by sending you out to get it looked at. If it is a type of cyst it's a fairly simple procedure to have it taken care of.
Thank you. I will stay away from google and try not to worry.
I know, that is easier said than done. I wish I could tell you what was going on. It is most likely nothing to worry about. No matter what, I am glad they found it & are looking into it.
