Choroid plexus cysts

Hi Ladies

I post on the June 2013 boards and I thought I would ask you mamms.

 here is the back story

Choroid plexus cysts was found on the baby's ultra sound. The doctor said not to worry they just are going to do another ultrasound in a few weeks. But today The LPN called and said the doctor called and whats to meet with me and my husband on Friday, to go over everything and then he is going to send me to a regional perinatal center in a biger city. I just dont understand everything that is going on I am stressing and I have bad anxity and this is making it worse. But the bigest question I have is if my screening back neg for downs and trisomy why do I have to go this other Dr?

What questions would you ask if you were in my shoes?

And if any of you mamms went threw this can you tell me what happen to you?

    Lurker...

They found the cysts during my a/s at 18 weeks.  Like you, I was told it is very common and usually clears up on it's own.  The doctor's office kinda downplayed it because they see it all the time and the results of my NT scan were excellent. I had a follow up ultrasound at 24 weeks, and sure enough they were all gone and my daughter is 100% healthy.  I honestly wouldn't worry especially since your DS tests came back negative.  Good luck to you!

They really haven't talked me about it really, That's why we have to go back to see the Dr. So hopefully I will have more info about it. I thought a cysts was always a soft marker? They also said when I asked why I have to go to a specialist they said so they can see the baby better.

My oldest had Choroid Plexus Cysts at the 20 week ultrasound.  We had to go for a level 2 ultrasound with a specialty dr.  We actually went twice because the first time they were still there and LO wasn't allowing the dr to see her heart.  The second time they were gone and her heart looked great.

If there are no other markers, then it should be absolutely nothing.  They go away.

Plus, a dr told me that they are no big deal and there can be anyone walking around with Choroid Plexus Cysts and not even know it.  (Granted they may have told me that to make me feel better..)

The specialist probably has higher grade ultrasound capabilities.  I had to go to a specialist for an abnormal quad screen and enlarged kidneys (both ended up being nothing).  They explained to me that I had to go to get a clearer picture of what was going on, and the specialist can read the ultrasounds better than your average OB usually.

We had choroid plexus cysts at our 19 w anatomy scan. We had a more detailed u/s at 28 weeks. They were gone.

He is a happy, healthy, typically developing 4.5 month old.

My dr said the cysts on their own (without any other abnormalities) are harmless. less than one percent of babies with cysts and no other markers actually have a bigger problem (like chromosomal abnormality). A more detailed u/s will rule out the other problems. The odds are in your favor!

exactly this for us too.   Don't panic, they really are common and will likely clear up on their own.  I was told that they are finding them more often now because the quality of the ultrasounds has improved so much.
