DS just turned 5 and is about 37 pounds and 42 inches tall. He is still harnessed in a Britax Frontier. I plan on leaving him 5 point harnessed for as long as possible, but is there any downside at this age and height? He still hasn't hit the 40 pound mark yet. However, he's mature enough to sit still and has always understood the importance of belting in, if that makes sense. I still assume I should keep him where he is for awhile longer? Do I need to worry about outgrowing height with this seat? He is just fine where he is, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Re: Another car booster question
Thanks! I'm pretty sure the harness is still ok and his head is just reaching the top of the seat, but I will double check. And he currently is able to buckle himself in correctly, so it's all good. I will keep him in it for now, I think, especially since he's not a huge kid.

You still have quite a while before the harness is outgrown. We have two Frontiers, dd2 just outgrew the harness - now watch me cry. She is the worst in boosters, and she's stayed in the harness so long simply because she's not appropriate in one. Here's hoping. dd3 has one as well, I may evaluate her before 7, but she's pretty calm and sits well, she'd do well, but she has to stay over the 40lb mark.
After your ds hits 40, you can look for signs of readiness, ie, can be focused enough to sit correctly boostered 100% of the time, doesn't nap (or stay put napping), and is rule compliant. DD2 can only do one of the 3. Hint - it's not napping, or slouching while napping.
