We are on month 8 of being MSPI as well as egg and nut free. I'm wondering how and when I should start reintroducing dairy and soy, specifically. Should I eat it or give it directly to him?
This is something you should ask your allergist. I can tell you that my DD is barely allergic to milk. I stopped giving it to her to get her all cleared up, then started giving it to her a tiny bit at a time. She had no reaction at all so I figured we were in the clear. Apparently it just needed to build up in her system again because she is now covered in eczema and asking to go to the doctor (she's 2).
I'm wondering this, too. My diet is causing me some very undesirable side effects. It's getting really old. DS1 was over it by 9.5 months, and I'm guessing sooner. We only found out because he refused to drink Neocate any longer, so we gave him regular Enfamil, and after 5 days of Enfamil, his diapers were clear of microscopic blood. DS2 is almost 6 months and I'm already tempted to try eating some soybean oil myself. It's the avoidance of soy that is making my life so complicated and causing my issues, I think. But I'm afraid to do it! I know someone whose LO was over soy allergy by 6 months and dairy by 8, hence the temptation. DS1 has had no food allergies since, so I'm optimistic this will be over within a few months.
I agree with pp that you should definitely talk to your dr about re-introducing dairy. Our ped and allergist both suggested after our LO's first birthday.
We were also avoiding everything you listed, dairy, soy, eggs and nuts. We also were tomato free. My LO is now 2 1/2 and still dairy intolerant. He has outgrown his soy, egg, and tomato intolerances but he was closer to 18 months - 2 yrs.
It really just depends on your child and whether you're dealing with an intolerance or an allergy.
I found this blog so helpful when we were going through the same thing:
