Ssimon Joie

H is studying biophysics. He works about 11 hours as a part time campus job. And has gotten into a lab which takes up some time but is great experience. But the rest is just studying. He worked construction before, and owned his own custom heating and airconditioning company, but always wanted to go to college. It's nuts to me, but physics is his passion.

Re: Ssimon Joie

  • Oh wow! I heard you mention before that he wants to go to grad school? Also, what school is he attending may I ask? UCSD? SDSU? USD?

That is pretty cool! If DH went to college after the military he wants to study physics as well! I studied chemistry and my mind just can't wrap around the physics side of science.  That is awesome though!

I also studied chemistry : Before doing elementary education in grad school. I love math, but find physics to be completely boring. I'm glad he gets to do what he loves though!

His parents were unhelpful and unsupportive of school the first time he tried. Neither of them graduated high school. His mom packed up all his brothers and sisters and moved to California while he was away at his first semester of college, without telling him. His dad refused to sign the paperwork that would have given him financial aid. He was in the Reserves, but they lost all his paperwork so wouldn't help him. And he was young and didn't know what he was doing, so he gave up and went into construction. I'm proud of him for going back after like a 12 year break from school. It's tough sometimes, but I am glad that at least I can help him since his family didn't.

    And he goes to UCSD.

I can't imagine studying any science as my major. I finally passed basic chemistry after taking it 3 times in college Embarrassed

    Aren't you a nurse?!

  • Thanks for answering Molly! I knew it had to be pretty intense when I saw how much he was studying.  Plus I'm just nosy because I always see you mentioning that he's in school and will be for a while.

Yes. Luckily, there was no chemistry on my NCLEX exam.  The first time I took it was my first semester at college and I didn't take the class seriously.  The second time, I got a C in the lab portion of the class and therefore had to retake both lab & lecture.  Third time=passed with an A!

    ........?

    Are you confused?

Yes. I'm confused about why there are nurses who don't have to take anatomy and physiology. That seems much more relevant than chemistry.

I don't think you can get through any nursing program without taking A&P. I had to take A&P 1 and 2 plus pathophysiology.  A&P is much more relevant than chemistry IMO, especially in a well patient environment like maternity (where I work).

Ohhhh okay. It sounded like you were saying that the only science you took was chemistry. My bad!
