MoM's of older kids - seperate bedrooms for same sex twins?

Ok so my girls have shared a room since the day they came home from the hospital. It has worked out great for us and I thought it would continue for a long long time. Well this week my one twin has asked about having her own room and I have found her two mornings in a row sleeping in the guest bedroom. Apparently she wakes up in the middle of the night and goes into that room to sleep. I asked her why and she says because "Sissy is loud in her sleep." We do have the room, we have a 4 bedroom house. It just means giving up the guest bedroom because we use one bedroom as an office for DH. We don't have guests stay with us all that often. The only person who ever really uses the room is my DSS when he comes for a week in the summer to visit. But we could figure out a way to set him up in DH's office for that week or have the girls sleep together and he use one of their new rooms. So my question is, would you make them stay together or let them have their own rooms?

My real hesitation, is this just a phase for my one twin and she will stop asking in a week or so. If we go through the trouble of switching all the rooms around and then she starts trying to sleep in her twins room every night I am going to be kind of peeved. DH suggested we move them into seperate rooms temporarily and see if it sticks. But I hate to have him break down beds (the beds will not fit through the doors of the smaller rooms assembled) and move them around for nothing, seems like a lot of work.

  • Maybe give it a few more weeks and then decide?

We are in a 2BR house right now but we're looking to buy this year and I'm hoping to get 3BR+ a FROG or 4BR so we can have an office/guest room along with the option of putting the boys in separate rooms. I'd like to try it when we have the space and see how it goes.

  • Can you just set her up in the guest room for a few weeks and see if she still wants to move or it fizzles?

I plan on making mine share a room until they are at least 10 or so.

  • We have offered our different sex multiples the option to sep rooms, they won't have it...so I am guessing my girls will not want to have their own room. I shared with my sister until I moved out...we are still very close today.

  • I'd give it a week and see or just let her sleep in the guest bed for now and see how she likes it.

  • Mine have had their own rooms since 4.5 months. Their sleep habits are just too different for it to work. If they asked, I'd let them have their own rooms.
