Flying

I'm flying with A on Sunday. It's going to be a 7 hour day for us with 2 lay overs of just over an hour each.

For those of you that have already flown, what did you bring with you? What did you wish you had brought? What did you pack or leave at home that you wish was in your carry on?

Re: Flying

  • Im in the same boat in March and I just read this article:

  • This is going to sound really weird, but puppy pads.

    1. The changing tables at major airports are disgusting.  If there's a blowout, you don't want to use your washable one and have to carry a poopy changing pad around for hours.  Use the puppy pad and you can toss it.

    2. There's not really anywhere to change a baby on a plane, except the back galley.  Usually the flight attendants are understanding.  The puppy pads are big enough to handle both a squirmy baby and a bouncy plane.

  • Puppy pads! Great idea!
Thanks for the help ladies! I'm really nervous about it since it will be just us two.

  • I flew with K over Christmas (she was 4/5 weeks old) and I wish I would have not had my heart set on thinking it would be only a 5 hour trip. Flights get delayed and cancelled without much notice so make sure to have somewhat of a flexible mind set. Just like pp said make sure to bring an ample amount of diapers, milk, bottles, pacifiers, etc. I wish I would have had a baby carrier at the time b/c I saw another mom there w/ one and I was envious. Its nice to have hands free and hold her as your walking all around the airport. Also I was EP at the time and I didn't even think about having batteries for my PISA... so I spent $16 for them at the airport. Terrible. So if you're going to be pumping... plan to have a good set of batteries!

  • I'm going to pretty much agree with everything the PPs have already said, extra clothes and more diapers than you think you will need...we flew at Christmas and will again in march and let me tell you wearing baby in the airport is the BEST thing ever and so much more convenient I also brought my boppy on the plane so she had something to sleep on and gate checked the stroller and carseat which was nice because I just used the snap n go to transport everything we needed in the airport

i think you FF and just so you know you are allowed to bring sealed bottled water through security which saves you time and a lot of money just make sure you have more than enough just in case of delays or change in eating habits due to traveling

  • I am fully expecting a cancelled flight. Where I am flying to the airport is in a dumb dumb location, and if the clouds are too low, or its super foggy or its snowing realy bad, or really anything that doesn't involve sunshine, the flight gets cancelled. It is also a really small airport/town so I either get to fly to the closest airport (3 hours away) or stay the night and try again the next day.

This happend to us last year when we flew, and to my mom when she flew back in December. The weather isn't looking good the day we are flying, so I have a feeling my mom will be making the 3 hour trip to come get me at the closest airport.

I didn't buy a seat for her, she will be a lap baby. It is $950 for a ticket just for me, and I wasn't going to spend that on her too if I can fly with her for free on my lap.

I do plan on having both my snugly and my moby that I just bought, they both have different advantages.

And in Canada, you aren't allowed to bring your own water. "Water will be provided on the plane".. that's cool... so I am going to have them fill my thermous with hot water, and buy a couple bottles of cold water and unfortunatly I will just have to deal.

Thanks again for all your suggestions. It is making me feel a little less anxious about it.
