NBR: Goodbye carpet!

I am super excited.  We just got home from purchasing our new floors!  We are getting our living room and dining room done with hand scraped laminate.  I am so excited to get rid of our gross carpets.  We got a pretty good deal too, $1600 for both rooms installed, 12 months same as cash.

We bought the house as a foreclosure so the carpets are in bad shape.  I am so happy that the baby wont be laying/crawling around on these gross carpets. After we pay off these two rooms we will get the stairs/game room done and one day the master.

  • I'm jealous! Our house was a rental before and the carpet has taken a beating. If nothing major breaks in the house between now and March we'll be replacing it with laminate. We are going to do the whole house at once because we hate the flooring in the none carpeted areas too.

We looked in to doing it all at once.  That would of been $4300 and I didnt want to commit to payments of around $360 to get it paid off in 12 months.  We put 400 down today so the payments are an easy $100 a month.  I was surprised with the price, because we have about a 2500 sqf home, and most of it is carpet.  Besides the kitchen/entry way & bathrooms.  We will be leaving carpet in all the bedrooms upstairs.

  • wow that is a great price!
  • Did you go through a chain, or a local place? I'd love to get the janky carpet in our dining room replaced with hardwood before the baby comes, and to carry it through the kitchen and hallway but that's going to be entirely too much money. My only hope, unless we come across a killer deal, is to get the whole place steam-cleaned before June.

We're debating keeping the bedrooms carpeted (but will be replacing it regardless), we both would prefer no carpet at all for allergy reasons, but we don't plan on this being our forever home and there's really no room to build equity.

  • Aww I'm jealous too! Our carpets aren't that bad, but I would much rather have wood floors.
