Re: bucket list?

  • Someday I WILL go to Australia/New Zealand.  I have always wanted to go there and sight see.  While there I will bungie jump off of a bridge and go on a red stag hunt.

I have also always wanted to go sky diving.  My Dad turns 50 next year and has always wanted to as well so I am thinking birthday present :)

I haven't gone to Australia because of the $$.  Sky diving because I want someone to go with and it's quite a drive to get somewhere that does it.

  • You've been to South Beach. I think you get the jist of my list, LOL!

Seriously, though, my dream since I was 6 years old was to get on The Price Is Right and play Plinko. Someday I'll do it.

  • Go to Australia and scuba at the great barrier reef, oh and hold a Koala bear!

Money would be the main reason for not going.

Eta: I also want to run a full marathon I have only run a couple half marathons. I plan to accomplish this by spring 2014!

  • Do I ever.

    1. Be in Times Square for New Years

    2. Go to the Kentucky Derby, wear a big hat

    3. Watch something launch from Cape Canaveral

4 Disney with my little girl, see all the princesses

    5. Go yachting off Cape Cod

    6. Watch the sun set from the edge of the Grand Canyon

    7. Eat bbq in Texas

    8. Swim in the Gulf

    Ok marathon girl...impressive!!

And I've been to Australia...I went when I was 18 and it was UNREAL. I went for violin so had a pretty rigid schedule but did have some free time here and there. Seeing the Sydney opera house was soooo cool. It's just so beautiful there. I hope you make it one day!

  • i would love to:

go on a cycling tour in france....like do parts of the tour de france.  not as a racing thing, but mostly just to see the country by bike

^^also, i want to do the same thing in italy....really, i'd like to see all europe by bike, just in separate vacations.

i'd like to do a coast to coast (east/west) (road) bike ride, like ride across america or something

i'd like to hike the full length of the appalachian trail

i'd like to do the great wall of china marathon

i'd like to do a marathon on all of the continents (yes, there is even one in antarctica)

i'd like to go to greece with my mom.  we lived there in the early 80s and she would love to go back

i'd love to take my mom on an alaskian cruise

i'd be interested in doing a 100mile ultra marathon.

there is a mountain bike trail that runs from the northern us border to the southern us border.  i'd like to ride that.

basically, what is keeping me from them is time, money and now kiddos.  DH and i did a bunch of things that were important to us in the 4 years we'd been married before DD.  We'll keep at them, but most of mine require weeks, if not, months off.  i hope to be able to do one every few years after my kids get older.  i'm self employed so we should be able to swing one every few years.

  • A friend if mine is doing a decade dash it is a list of things you need to do before you hit the next decade. So she has a list of 40 before 40 that includes everything from climbing in the Himalayas to marching in a Thanksgiving Parade to learning to play a song on a ukelele. She blogs about it. I am totally in awe.

My list includes kayaking the San Juan Islands with my girls, visiting Japan and New Zealand, taking a cooking class, seeing Sigur Ros in concert and hikingcamping my way around Iceland with a friend. Also learning to trim my dog's nails because it terrifies me.

I have not done any of these because of the cost and the logistics of it. Having 3 kids and working FT slows things down a bit.

  • Go to Fiji. We were going to get married there, but ending up choosing a closer island so our families could attend. Then I thought maybe we'd go for our ten year anniversary. Well, that's in May, and there's no way I'm leaving DD to go halfway around the world. We'll get there one day.

this is possibly the most death defying task on the whole post so far ;)

we just take our dog for lots of runs on the cement.  that keeps them short enough for me :)

what's on yours? I want to see more of Europe. I have only been to England so far.

is there something you've always wanted to do or a place you've always wanted to go? I want to see Spain & Italy for the food, culture, and wine :)

what is something that you REALLY want to do? I think I want to live in another country for like a year.

why haven't you done it yet?  what would it take for you to do it?

Probably because I went straight from college to grad school and then started teaching right away, I was engaged to the wrong person at the time (didn't marry him) and just got started with the working life, instead of exploring more. Now I am afraid to move the LO away from her family, but maybe when she is a little older we will go somewhere and expose her to a different culture. It would take a fair amount of money :)

  • I want to travel to all the continents, Antarctica included. Mainly I want to tour Italy and go in a gondola ride in Venice. I would prefer if I could travel as much like a local as I can. I'm noy a fan of being all touristy at places unless it's like Disneyland or something. I'd also love to drop everything one day and open my own scuba shop somewhere tropical, like Cabo or somewhere in Thailand.
  • Vacation out of the US, is a major one.
    Go on a cruise.
    Skydive.

  • I really have so many places that I want to travel.

I definitely want to go on a safari in Africa.  I just think it would be the most amazing trip ever.

And I want to go scuba dive in the great barrier reef.  I've had my certification for years and have yet to do anything except quarry dives.

  • what's on yours?

I have a 30 before I am 30 list that I made when I turned 18. I have done about 8 things on it at this point. Some are unfortunately not feasible anymore and I am okay with that. The ones that are not going to happen are like joining the Peace Corp kind of stuff. The other things, to give you a few are: go on a vacation by myself, learn to play chess, scuba dive, see a whale, be fluent in another language....

is there something you've always wanted to do or a place you've always wanted to go?

I want to travel the world basically. I have on my list to travel to 20 countries. I have been to 8 so far. I REALLY want to go to places in Africa and Asia.

what is something that you REALLY want to do?

The #1 thing I would like to do before I die would be go to Africa and take a safari and see a Great White Shark. I am a huge animal nerd.

why haven't you done it yet?  what would it take for you to do it

I would do it in a heartbeat if I had the funds to go.

I forget where you are located but last summer and it looks like this summer as well there has been a great white shark off the coast of the OBX and VA beach area.  There is a blog set up about it and people post photo's when she is spotted.

  • I have a must-see travel list, and I try to knock off one place per year at least.  My two favorites have been South Africa and India thus far.  I like going to places that offer pretty basic amenities and to see the 'real' city/town/country.  My sister and I walked through the slums of India and it was extremely eye-opening, plus we met some amazing people.  Next up is hopefully:

-Thailand/Cambodia/Laos combination trip... Gate1 Travel has a great package

    or

-Poland...my granny grew up in Poland during WW2 and I'd love to see her hometown

Also, my husband and I have a tradition of doing something adventurous on each of our honeymoons.  One year we went skydiving, another river tubing, and I've bought him flight lessons.  I'm not sure what we'll do this year though!

I would love to be on Jeopardy!

Me too.   I always tell SO that he should have tried to get on college Jeopardy as he still met the requirement but he is too chicken.   Kiki you should do it.    Take the test and fly to LA!   I will root for you!   I don't think I am smart enough to do it but I would like to.

Also, my college roommates (who are now married) went to the Price is Right on their honeymoon but they didn't make it on stage!

  • I want to canoe a river in every province and territory in Canada.

    I want to visit Antarctica.

I want to do the field work portion of the Meerkat Project in South Africa for a couple months.  I did a lot of lab work for it and that was fun to genotype them and get to know them a bit (I knew first who shagged who). Yes these were the same ones on Meerkat Manor. When DS is in High School, I may do this.

  • I want to go on a legit African Safari. My parents just got back and I always joke with them that they are living my bucket list. They did the whole shebang, diving with great whites in South Africa and all. It was my dream vacation.... and they took it.

I would also like to finish my MBA. I know I should do it for ME, and no other reason, but part of me can't justify forking over $100k for another degree when ultimately, I want to SAH one day. We'll see.

I would love to be on Jeopardy!

I had a friend who won like $60,000 on Jeopardy last year. I was in the audience cheering her on. Alex Trebeck was surprisingly hilarious. So fun! You should definitely take the test.

  • I want to travel all over but mostly Italy. I also want to drive cross country. I would like to be fluent in another language.
I havent done the traveling due to money and time. And the foreign language now due to time. I need to get rosetta stone!
  • This is so much fun!

In no particular order, I'd like to do an Ironman, run a marathon (DH has done 3 Ironmans and swears that the marathons he did by themselves were harder...I'd like to see for myself!), race mountain bikes, do one of those European bike trips with DH and DS when he's old enough, and maybe, just maybe, get my Masters in Economics or an MBA while working full time.

I did this exact thing for my Dad's 50th. We had so much fun and such a wonderful memory together. If you can do it, I totally recommend it!
