Valentines with suckers ok for 3.5 yo?

I really want to make Superhero valentines for DS's preschool class. I found some really cute ones (link below), but I'm wondering if mom's wouldn't like giving suckers to 3-4 year olds? I don't have a problem with DS having one once in awhile. Do you think it's age appropriate, or should I find something else?

  • I think suckers, well, suck. You'd think they'd be easy since it's just a little piece of candy on a stick but the few times Lydia has had one, she gets so dang sticky!! I avoid them. I know she'll get candy from her classmates, I'm hoping for small pieces she can just pop in her mouth.

  • I think it's fine. I included suckers in the treat bags I gave out at DD's fourth birthday (which was all girls aged 3-4).

  • I love that idea and would be fine with the sucker!

  • DS is only 2, but I actually prefer suckers to a lot of candy because I feel like he is less likely to choke than with just regular hard or really chewy candy. Of course I don't let him walk with them.

Now? I remember getting candy taped to valentines when I was a kid. I don't think it's a new thing. But yeah, I have a feeling Lydia will be getting a fair amount from her classmates.

I only remember getting the odd box of conversation hearts not candy from every classmate.

But then again, she also had treat bags or little gifts from about 3 or 4 classmates at Christmas which I thought was kind of crazy.

Oh yeah, Lydia got candy from her classmates for Christmas too. I didn't send anything for her to give out, I didn't feel it was necessary.

  • You could use push pops.  You can get a big bag of them at BJ's or Costco, maybe even Walmart?

I give them lolly pops while they get their haircut or sometimes at the end of mass if they are seriously over it.

I prefer the push pop because it is a lot safer than a lolly pop and would appreciate it from other parents.

Even my old dinosaur self got treats from friends on VDay.

We're giving everybody a small rubber duck with a sticker that says "I think you're Ducky!" or  "You Quack Me Up!" Happy Valentine's Day~ DD

OMG, that sounds so cute!  I love it!  I already let Lydia pick out Minnie Mouse valentines otherwise I'd totally steal your idea.

I think you are like 2 years older that me, IIRC, so I guess I just lived an under-priviliged life. And I will go buy treats for DD's valentines.

LOL I'll be 35 in August.

Thanks...they're really cute ducks. Found them in the $1 section at Target today. They have hearts or xoxo on them. Hope she likes the idea because I already got a friend to design the stickers.

  • Love the duck idea too! I am 31 and I remember valentines always being a mix of some with treats and some without. I just always loved it as a kid and my mom put a ton of effort into making me a valentines box and valentines every year that were special and I always felt so lucky! I don't try to get all crafty for most holidays, but this one is kind of a tradition so I wanted DS to have something he'd be totally into and excited to give out.
  • My 3 year old loves suckers!
