MEAT.

SO this is my first pregnancy, and through the whole m/s thing the past 5 weeks, there's been one major theme... cannot smell, see, or eat MEAT of any kind. Has anyone else has this problem?? Does it subside at all?? I can't imagine not eating ANY meat my whole pregnancy. Besides that it makes it soo hard to cook for my family and join in the family meals as well. Just the thought of meat is making me queasy! :-P Blech!

Re: MEAT.

  • I can't even look at meat either without feeling sick.  a commercial came on for chili's last night and I had to look away.  I'm 11 weeks now and it's been going on since week 6 with no signs of letting up.  my doctor said that's fine for now but when I get in the second tri he'll want me to eat meat.  I'm ok if I can't see the meat like lasagna with meat or soup with chicken seems to be ok. maybe try it in soups and a cassaroles

  • I haven't eaten meat or a vegetable in 7 weeks.  From what I hear most of the aversions will subside, hopefully soon!

  • I can't handle it or cook it from a raw state, and the smell of it cooking is often rough.  I can't handle chicken at all, major food aversion.

Once cooked, though, I can't get enough burgers, steak, pulled pork and seafood like shrimp.

I just ask my H to handle any cooking of raw meat, and we've admittedly done a lot more pre-prepared food in these early months of pregnancy.  I can handle heating up something already made from Costco or the deli!  It does seem to be abating a tiny bit this week, so I'm hoping in a few weeks I'll be able to cook and eat a full range of foods without wanting to gag.

  • my aversion to meat is just barely going away. Chicken still skeeves me a little, but I do better with beef. I'm still having issues with garlic and onions though.

  • I can eat it, but if I look at raw meat or chicken I want to vomit.
  • I totally felt this way from 6 weeks until recently. I can now eat it once in a while. Hang in there, hopefully things will improve for you!! In the mean time you can get your protein from other sources you can stomach!

  • Until last week, no veggies, meat for eggs for me.  I'm feeling better during the day now but dinner is still hit and miss.

Last pregnancy I did get over those aversions by second tri.

  • I can't deal with any type of raw meat so I've been taking frozen meat out of my freezer, throwing it in the crock pot with other stuff, and its done by the time I get back home.  That or we've been getting a lot of take-out/eating out more since my DH can't cook.

  • Ugh I miss eating meat! I can't even look at my fridge or be in my kitchen without wanting to puke so my last few months I've been spending in my bedroom but once I feel better I am going to indulge in all the meat I can get my hands on
  • This is exactly me!  I haven't eaten meat in weeks.  And cheeseburgers were my favorite food.  It really sucks.  I'm hoping this goes away by 2nd trimester.  I was also a coffee addict and now it grosses me out.  I only drink tea - really crazy.

  • I've only been able to eat meat in the last week. But cooking it is still a battle. The smell of meat cooking is awful. AWFUL. But I can eat it in small amounts, particularly if its kind of "hidden" in a meal.

  • When I was pregnant with DS, I had a horrible meat aversion, that didn't subside until I was at least a few weeks postpartum (sorry to be a drag!). This time, it's really only chicken and fish that bothered me, but I can tell the aversion is getting better. I hope yours subsides in the second tri!

  • I felt that way all thru 1st trimester. I started eating chicken but still no red meat. I wouldn't worry about it. Meat these days is filled w hormones and antibiotics. It's probably healthier to stick to veggies and whole grains. Time to explore some yummy veg cuisine!
  • I have been the same way. To the point that I refuse to cook at all. My poor husband has had to fend for hisself for the past 2 months. But it does get better.  There are still some meats I cannot even think about eating, but i am starting to want stuff like grilles chicken breast and a small steak again.  Its noce to have some protein and iron back in my diet. :)
