Do you feel instant relief after birth?

After you give birth, do you get instant relief from carrying the babies? The weight of my belly is so physically exhausting on my body. I am preaching to the choir though. I just can't wait to feel "normal" again, or my "new normal" being a new mom.

Re: Do you feel instant relief after birth?

  • I felt instant relief, as in pressure was gone and I could breathe better when they pulled baby a out.  I even said on the operating table, "Oh my gosh, that feels so much better.  I can breathe!" The doctor joked and asked if I wanted him to leave the other two in!  Ha!

  • I definitely did.  I was in so much pain and I couldn't sleep-I couldn't move.  My physical AND emotional health was suffering-and I think it actually helped the first couple of weeks of lack of sleep, because I PHYSICALLY felt so much better!

Go get a massage-it was AMAZING.  i should have done it more often!

  • I haven't been their with twins, but I had instant relief with my singleton. I was laying there being stitched up with a third degree tear and I remember turning to dh and saying god,I feel so much better!

  • Yup, it was instantly better.
  • It was AMAZING. I put my hand on my sternum while they were stitching me up and said, "I can feel my bones again! I feel like a supermodel!" I could breathe better and felt like half of me had been lifted away. I will NEVER forget how awesome that was after having those two so crammed inside me!

  • I felt instantly deflated once they took baby B out.  However your uterus will still be very enlarged immediately after delivery but will gradually shrink back down to normal size by about 6 weeks.  The first few days after my belly still felt big but defintiely not as big.  I'd say I looked about 18-20 weeks pregnant when I left the hospital.  I felt almost back to normal (just a little fluffier) after about 4 weeks when all the fluid came off.
  • Yes! It was so nice to be able to lie comfortably on my back again! And then coming home my bed felt sooo.good...whereas it had become my enemy the last month or so of pregnancy....

  • Agree with everyone. I felt lighter and could breathe! The doc laughed and said I should as he had taken 50lbs out!

  • I had a 2nd degree tear so I was in pain after delivery but, I could definitely breathe more easily once Baby A was delivered. To me that was the hardest part of labor - I could not take a deep breath on my back. I also had instant relief from the heartburn which was really nice!

    You're almost there, Sweetie!

  • I don't remember feeling instant relief.  However, I could breathe better and heartburn was gone.  However, post c-section my ab muscles were in terrible shape. Worst pain and discomfort than anything I ever felt while pregnant. I could not stand up straight for days. I wore an abdominal binder 24/7.  It took several weeks before I felt "normal" again.
  • Thanks ladies! I am sooo looking forward to not feeling so heavy in the front, and everything that comes with that heaviness.  I have dropped, so I have been able to breathe ok.   I am most likely having a c-section because baby A is currently breech, so I know I will have the soreness that comes with that.  I am just so excited to be able to stand for more than 5 minutes without feeling like my legs and back are going to break.  I am excited to lay in bed without having to hold 2 bowling balls to roll over to the other side.

  • For me, the relief wasn't really instant since the pain of the c/s just replaced the pain I had from being so huge.  After a day or two though I felt better and now after 3 weeks I feel a million times better.  Even though I am not getting much sleep now, I have so much more energy than I did at the end of my pregnancy.

  • YES!!! Instant relief! I'll never forget how wonderful it felt.

  • I don't remember instant relief after Baby A came out b/c I was really contemplating how the heck I was going to push Baby B out, but after I delivered the placenta my midwife said "congratulations, you are no longer pregnant" and I remember feeling fabulous.

You have different aches and pains post baby but the pregnant can't breathe, my stomach is going to rip apart, my joints are falling apart pain is largely gone.

  • Heck yeah! I remember my first day post c-section (hello! major surgery!) saying that I already felt better than I did being 36 weeks pregnant with twins.
