32 weeks now and the day is getting closer and closer! I can barely sleep at night! (Mostly due to discomfort though)
And yet with that, I am feeling so unprepared for the day that she comes! My friend had forgotten that she said she would throw me a baby shower so my mother stepped in last minute. We are on a low budget so things I find us needed I'm not really sure how I'm going to get! I'm so scared that when she comes I won't have all that I need.
And yet I'm sure it'll be fine and when the time comes I will be ready. But not for her, herself. How can you ever really be prepared for another life?
I know I can't be the only one with these feelings. How are you feeling so close? Are you ready for the big day?
Re: Feeling so unprepaired
What you need for baby:
Diapers, carseat, blankets, newborn zip up sleepers, somewhere safe for baby to sleep.
For Mom:
Nursing pads, lanolin, postpartum pads, nursing tanks or bras.
There are a few other things that are nice to have like a stroller or carrier, changing table/pad, boppy, and swing or bouncy seat.
All baby needs is your hands, breasts, and heart.
Here is some info on how to get assistance if you are in King County.

I understand how you feel. I am 34 weeks, FTM and feel very unprepared, so much so that I can't sleep. Yesterday at my 34-week appointment, I was having minor contractions and the doctor said if it continues, I should go to triage, I freaked out internally as we are SO not prepared...
Same thing happened to me, my SIL was going to throw a shower, but never brought it up as it got closer and I feel like it's getting too late and I need to get the stuff myself.
I made a list of stuff people have given me (few clothes here and there and mostly size 6 months and up...) As it turns out, looking at my "list" of clothes we have gotten, we have 1 newborn sleeper, one 3 month sleeper and two 3 month onesies..
MIL was going to sew cloth diapers, we've got 2 diapers so far.
People (family, friends, co-workers) kept asking if we are registered so I finally went ahead and did register...we've been registered for 2 months now and not a single things has been purchased from it.
opps I hit enter before I was done..
I am going to start looking for things on Craigslist..hopefully I can get some essentials for a decent price as we are also on a budget...only DH is working currently...
hi,
You are feeling the new mom anxiety, try not to worry so much everything would be fine.
I agree with Kathzoo. You do not need a lot of things specially clothes since baby grows so fast . I'm giving advice by experience, I'm a pediatric nurse and a mom of a 9yr old,12month old and 27weeks pregnant with our 3rd. I was lucky with having 3 baby shower on my first and learned that majority of the things I received and thought I need just became a clutter in the house.
The most important thing is get your hospital bag packed and ready to be loaded in the car or already loaded in the car.
Hospital bag essential:
*Insurance card, Drivers license, a little cash for food or your co-pay for meds when you get discharged.
*2-3 change of clothes for you and hubby. Cotton night gown rather than PJ is better since you will be bleeding and sore from childbirth so lifting your legs and moving a lot might be painful. Nursing bra, pads.A pack of adult diaper is much more comfortable than the pads the hospital gives you,so ADULT DIAPER is a life saver for me. Make up is a must!
*Toiletries
* Camera - fully charged
* snacks just in case the cafeteria is closed when you are allowed to eat.
Bag for baby:
* 4-6 change of clothes for your baby. Premi is best your babies weight during ultra sound is not exactly his /her birth weight. Bunting blanket, burp cloth, thick blanket, car seat. The hospital will give you diapers and wipes for starter.
*Hospitals really encourage breastfeeding so if you are planning on bottle you might have to bring a bottle or two and some formula.
For the house: If you are not picky try looking for clothes on craiglist. Babies grow like weeds so buying new clothes could be very expensive. Bouncer is a life saver. diapers, diaper rash cream, wipes( get a wipe warmer it's torture to be wiped with ice cold wipes in the middle of the night). In general babies do not need a lot of things but they sure need a lot of love.
Good luck!
OP: I don't know if you're still following this thread or not..but I wanted to give you an update.
Today I went to GoodWill and to be frankly honest I have never been into one. I've always donated our stuff though. When I walked in, there was this strange smell and I frankly thought I'll be heading out because it almost felt like first trimester and I thought I may vomit...but after a few minutes I got used to the smell. Anyway, I was able to find LOTS, I mean lots of baby stuff, some with original tags on (so basically brand new) for 0.99 to $1.45. I probably looked like a crazy pregnant lady as I was grabbing all these baby clothes. I came home with 2 giant bags of clothes, blankets and other misc baby stuff. I spent $46 dollars and I think we're pretty good clothes wise until 6 months.
My DH was even amazed and said the stuff I picked up looks nicer than the Gymboree stuff (unrelated but we had a $10 coupon and the other night we had a hard time picking something at Gymboree, we ended up getting a single onesies that was on clearance for $7 and a pair of socks).
I also was able to get a baby carrier for $15 (listed for $119 on amazon) and also 10 cloth diapers that came with many inserts ($40) from Craigslist. So today I feel MUCH better and more prepared than Monday.
I just wanted to share in case it'll help you.
