Pregnant after 35

5w 5d and spotting

Light pink spotting.  At first it was just the teeniest bit but I went to the bathroom again and there was a more.  I am waiting for a call back from my OB and trying not to panic at work, but I am nervous.  I did not have this in my first PG at all.

Re: 5w 5d and spotting

  • I had spotting early in this pregnancy.  Everything is fine but it was scary as can be.  Let us know what the OB says.

  • I had a miscarriage between my first and second that started with red/pink When I wiped . If it is a miscarriage you will know. This early, it will feel very much like a period.
    If it doesn't get heavier soon, hopefully it is nothing. I've read many people's stories where they had spotting and healthy babies! Good luck ;
  • OB said it is too early to do an U/S, and he also said it is not uncommon for women to have spotting at this point in their PG and everything ends up ok.  I am not having any cramping at this point, so he said leave work, put my feet up and take it easy this evening.  If it continues I am to call him back.  If it stays just as spotting, he will start checking HcG levels tomorrow.  If it gets worse, that is obviously not good news.  So now I am kicked up watching Millionaire Matchmaker and trying not to stress out.

  • I had spotting three times during first tri. The second and third times at 8w and 10w were more substantial and really scary. I was seen both times, had ultrasounds both times, and baby was and is just fine. Said it was probably my uterous gettig used to not being empty anymore and a sensitive cervix. I was on pelvic rest for a bit but that's it. Fingers crossed that you and baby are just fine, too.

  • Thank you superzuber!  It is encouraging to hear a positive story.

  • A little spotting can be normal. Cramping/heavy bleeding with clots is a warning sign. Can they check your beta levels?

    He will check my levels if the spotting continues.  If it stops, he will just check me out at my US appt next week.

  • Sending you good thoughts. I've had it go both ways, you will know soon. Hang in there.

  • I had some pink spotting but I took it easy and it went away.  Ultrasound showed everything looking good.  So hang in there and try not to panic.  Hopefully everything will work out OK.
  • Hello just wanted to say I am 42 yrs old and this is my 10th pregnancy (9 living children) I am 24 weeks now but this was the first pregnancy of mine in which I had spotting until 9 weeks or so...scared the heck out of me...doc said it doesn't always mean anything bad.  Good luck :)
  • I hope it's normal for you.

    I had spotting my whole first tri. And then it went away and came back around 20 weeks. It was brown, it was pink, and I cramped off and on. Never could find a reason.

    I know it's so stressful. I just wanted to offer some hope.
