Cleaning cushions on your glider/rocker

I got a glider from craigs list - it's in great condition and the cushions are fairly clean but I'd still like to wash them.

For those that have done it, what did you do? Soak in the tub? Put in the washing machine? Dryer or air dry?

Thanks in advance =)

Re: Cleaning cushions on your glider/rocker

  • Do you have someone you can borrow a spot bot or rug doctor from? I would try the attachments on those first before I would put the cushions in a tub or washer. They'll steam clean it.

  • I am going to clean mine with upholstery cleaner. It's from a family member, but the fabric is dirty.

  • I'm going to keep my eye on this post because ours is in rough shape after 2.5 years of DS :)  It needs a good cleaning or a slipcover!

  • I cleaned mine with rubbing alcohol (I sprayed it on with a spray bottle) and a white sponge (so the dye wouldn't seep onto the cream-colored cushion). Then I took a fabric brush after it dried and brushed it out. I also vacuumed the cushion to get rid of any other stuff. The stains mostly came out of the footstool and overall the glider looks great.

  • We have a steam cleaner I used to clean the two used gliders I have.

  • We got ours from a garage sale...Threw those bad boys in the wash on cold water & delicate setting...then in the dryer on the LOWEST setting to take the deep wetness out then hung to dry out the more...It turned out fantastic!
However, the footstool cushion doesn't come off...so we are going to Rug Doctor it!

  • If the covers come off, just wash the covers.
You can rent a carpet cleaner/steamer.
You could take a bowl of hot water and a bit of laundry detergent, a cleaning brush, and scrub the chair and let it dry in front of a fan.
I wouldn't SOAK it cause unless the covers come off, it could get moldy.

  • I got a bassinet from my cousin that she used for her son and I took off all the cushions and put in the washing machine and dryer even tho it said to dry clean and not to put in dryer and it came out perfect and clean.

I did get a NEW swing and rocker for my baby shower  and I'm not planning on washing that. Good luck!
