Minnesota Babies

Pediatrician Recommendations Needed

Hi MSP moms and moms-to-be!

I am looking for pediatrician recommendations for our first little one expected May 11!  I moved to Minneapolis with my husband in April for his job, so we don't have a huge network so any and all recommendations are highly appreciated.

We currently live downtown, but are looking to move in April/May (our lease is up at the end of May) so that we can have more space for the baby and our Texas family visitors.  Again, not really knowing the area all that well, so we will be getting a locator/realtor asap, but Eden Prarie, Edina, and St. Louis Park are considerations (DH works in Edina but mainly from home, and I will likely work downtown once I start practicing).

Thank you so much for your help in advance!

  • I highly recommend Dr. Tonya Bryan at Park Nicollet in St. Louis Park.  We have been with her for 2+ years and love her!!!!

  • on a side note: If you are looking for a realtor, I also highly recommend Beth Richardson.  You can look at her website at movingtominnesota.com

We used her via a recommendation from a coworker and have since recommended her to at least 3 others who used her and bought a home.

  • Thank you zestyfrog7.  Unfortunately that particular pediatrician doesn't fall in network with our insurance company, though some of the others there do so I will look into that.

Also, I have already shot the realtor an email. Thank you!

  • I highly recommend Metro Peds.  They have 3 locations:  Edina (right by Fairview Southdale Hospital), Burnsville and Shakopee.  I go to the Shakopee location, but have been to Edina once during weekend hours.  I have never seen a pediatrician at the practice that I haven't liked.  They have a large practice, but the docs generally stick to one location.  They do visits for expectant parents - we did an interview with a doctor that I liked after I read her bio.  I would recommend setting up an interview with a doctor there to see what you think.  Dr. Harrington did my son's circumcision and visited him in the hospital, and she is out of the Edina location.  I remember her being very nice.  For what it's worth, in the time since my son was born, we switched "primary" docs at the clinic a couple of times, just to really find the right fit with my personality and wants.  But you don't necessarily have to choose a primary doc - you can see anyone.  I just liked having that same doc for all the well visits.  Again - all great docs, you just have to find the right fit for you!
  • I second the rec for Beth Richardson! She is great. We actually worked with her assistant when we bought our house but she was super helpful to us as first-time homebuyers.

We go to Central Pediatrics in St. Paul. They also have an office in Woodbury. I know, not super convenient to the areas you're looking but it's a really great clinic. They also have all pediatric urgent care nights and weekends and walk-in appointments during the week.

    Good luck!

  • As a nanny I took kids to Southdale Peds & Partners in Peds(pregnancy brain is really affecting my memory & I can not think of the doctors the kiddos saw) The parents loved the docs & so did I. I was also a nanny for Dr Skallerud who is at Southdale Peds! I know her patients loved her & she was super sweet to work for!!

I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend her. I delivered at a hostpial our pedi didn't have priveleges at (we live very far from Edina) and she was the on-call assigned to my son.

She was wonderful at making me feel better when we had to stay in the hospital an extra night due to jaundice and she knew I would be without BFing support over the weekend, so she gave me her cell phone number in case I needed something. Her personal phone number, not the clinic. If I lived any closer I would absolutely be going to South Lake Peds.

That's awesome Rora! She seriously makes me look forward to pedi appointments, and her name makes me smile:)
