30-minute challenge

I think I have found my (late) New Year's Resolution

Last night, DH and I spent about half an hour just straightening the house after the girls went to bed. Nothing crazy, just little things like putting away dishes, folding laundry, etc. While doing that, we got to talking about a million of little things, from neighborhood gossip to possible landscaping plans for the new house. It was such a pleasant change from just vegging out in front of a screen (TV or computer).

Talk about killing two birds with one stone: we turned mindless household chores into quality time.

Bonus: Instead of rushing to clean up over lunch (I go home for lunch), I was able to just focus on prepping tonight's dinner. So that means one less thing to stress over :D

I am really hoping we can make a habit out of this. I think our family could really benefit from it.

Re: 30-minute challenge

  • Right!?

We went through an entire family re-focus last year when I read Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider.  We limit our viewing to 5 shows per week.  So, it's anywhere from 2.5 hours to 5 hours per week.  I can't believe how much of a time-suck the TV was getting to be.  Ugh.

    Good for you guys!!  :)

  • This is wonderful!

I'm trying to think back to ways that DH and I spent our time before DD and come up with ways to work that into our time.  We used to go outside almost every night and have "deck time" where we'd just sit and talk and hang out and shoot the shiit after work.  We also used to play a lot of games, cards, and cribbage.  I need to figure out a way to work these things back into our life, instead of just vegging out in front of the TV like we normally do.

  • Great idea!

I think about how much of a time suck tv, computers and smart phones are. My relationship with DH was much better pre smart phone and we still had the tv on from the minute Liam went to bed.

That's a good idea.  Too bad I could never get DH on board with anything that involved him cleaning....

He already tried to get out of it last night. He claimed his back hurt. I told him he could just lay on the couch to fold the laundry. Oddly enough, he didn't mention his back again and decided to help me out in the kitchen. lol
