Parenting after a Loss

Clothing...

Hi All!

I am 5 weeks pp and I'm just wondering what you all did for clothing for yourself. During the first few weeks I just wore pajamas, nursing tanks, etc. Now that we are getting out and about I want to wear some normal clothes. Problem is none of my clothes are close to fitting. My jeans are no where near fitting lol and most of my maternity clothes were dressy for work. Now that I will be a SAHM until September, I need some casual clothes. I don't want to spend money on say jeans when I will (hopefully) be losing more weight. Kwim? I wish I had some casual maternity clothes that I could wear but like I said most are for work.

Did you just bite the bullet and buy some transition clothes? Wait it out and make do until you dropped the pounds?

Re: Clothing...

  • Same here - I worked up until the end and had very few casual maternity clothes. I am a little over 4 weeks pp and I bit the bullet last weekend and bought a pair of jeans, a pair of khakis and three nursing shirts (from milk . com the week before - they have very classy, comfy shirts if you are interested). I spent a total of $140 on these 5 items. I am so glad I did it! I am sitting in my non-maternity jeans without my gut hanging over getting ready to go to the vehicle registration center and will NOT be going out in yoga pants ever again! Yippee!

If you have the extra $, I say do it - it makes me feel so much better about getting dressed.

Haha that is exactly how I feel, especially with the weather being so yucky. I think getting dressed will make me feel more like myself. I I mostly need jeans so maybe I'll start with one pair and then get another pair in a couple of weeks in case I lose some more weight. I have the money but I'm just being cheap and hoping to drop more weight lol.

  • It has been so long since I bought many new clothes. Many of my regular clothes have shrunk and since my boobs are bigger, they make the tops look smaller. I used to wear tight fitting tops and now I don't look good on them. However, I know that my boobs will get smaller eventually so I am just going to hit the outlets before I go back to work. These outlet clothes, especially from Gap, usually last a year to two before they fall apart.

  • I caved and bought a few pairs of jeans in my new bigger size.  You can score some really good deals right now because January and Feb are major markdown months for retail.  I just bought a pair of gap jeans for 18.00.

Sadly for me I have lost almost no weight since about 3 months PPSad so the clothing in the bigger size has been put to good use!

Yea, I was thinking of going to gap outlet, I have one close to me. You are right though, they don't last long. Plus I always buy tons of stuff for DS when I'm there.

Good to know, I think I am heading there this week.

I think I will buy some pairs because like you said, I don't know if the weight loss will slow.

  • I honestly wore yoga pants and tanks for about 3 or so months.  That being said I was only really going to the grocery store, Target, etc.  Once I went back to work I did have to buy a couple new pairs of bigger non-maternity work pants, and while I was at it, I bought a couple pairs of transitional jeans.  It ended up being a good idea because it took me about 7 months to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight, so I got a lot of use out of the pants after all.  I also ended up justifying it as, hey, next time when we are hopefully blessed with #2, I will probably use all these clothes again (and even longer since I heard it's harder to get back to pre-preg weight with subsequent pregnancies).

But I don't think there's anything wrong with yoga pants, sweats, etc. for most errands.  When I wear jeans at the grocery store and Target, I usually feel overdressed compared to everyone else anyway!

  • I wore mostly leggings under skirts and nursing shirts with built in bras all winter. None of my regular pants fit. When spring came I ditched the leggings and bought some short sleeve nursing tops.

My pants didn't really fit right for a long time. And if I'm being truly honest, only 3 pairs of work pants and 3 pairs of casual pants fit now, even though I'm a couple pounds below my pre-pg weight...

  • At home I still live in yoga pants and nursing tanks. [cue DH swooning] I bought one pair of bigger jeans, and I'd like to add another. During my pg, I got a pair of jeans with an elastic waist from the plus size dept at Forever 21, and I love them more now than when I was pg! I need to crack down and get into shape!

  • I would purchase a couples of things. Honestly everything shifts and changes after baby so you really don't know how anything is going to fit after you lose the weight.

  • Like other PP's if you can, bite the bullet, and buy some non-maternity clothes. I waited until I was 12 weeks PP before I bought myself a new pair of jeans. I was tired of wearing maternity clothes, and I felt so much better once I did buy a pair of "normal" jeans.

Fortunately, before I got pregnant I had lost 90 pounds, and I had kept most of my larger clothing. I'm a total penny-pincher so I am basically refusing to buy any new clothes until I am back down to my pre-pregnancy weight or less whenever that will be.

  • I lost all of my weight by two months pp but my normal clothes still did not fit. My hips and boobs are a lot bigger than before. I would by a few clothes you can wear just so you are comfortable now.

  • I bought transition clothes. I felt like I had to. I bought ONE pair of jeans and then I bought some other capris that could be dressed up or down. I was glad that I did. I saved everything for the next time.

  • Leggings. If your comfortable in them I would get some. I wore my maternity ones for awhile since I had a csection. But until I go back to work I've purchased one pair of jeggings from express. And I either wear leggings or work out pants. I can't fathom buying new clothes for them to get big again. My express jeans already are loose.
