Sugar and sweets during 2WW

Are they OK in moderation? Ive given everything else up....coffee, coke, wine, carbs, red meat but I had the worst sugar craving yesterday and I had some baked apples w ice cream....then today I had a huge chocolate muffin. I do feel better though, LOL, Hope I didnt screw anything up.

Re: Sugar and sweets during 2WW

  • I'm sure you're fine. But if you're really worried, your RE should be able to tell you what they recommend. I'd put money on the fact that it's fine. I hope it was tasty. :)

  • Meh...my RE didn't specify anything.  After thirty 2ww's I don't know that I'll make any changes.  You can't sit out half your life.  I'm not suggesting you go on a coke binge, or that this is the time to try acid, but don't kill yourself.  You're still allowed to eat meat.  And I can't imagine one cup of coffee or the occasional glass of wine is going to be the deal breaker.  I think the rule of thumb is not to do anything that you can't forgive yourself for if the cycle doesn't work.

  • Eh, I couldnt handle acid now anyways, LOL! I actually (remarkably) dont miss the coffee. I miss the wine and chocolate more!

  • You ask this as I shove a miniature Kit Kat in my mouth :)  I'm definitely not going to drink any alcohol during this 2WW but if I want a cup of coffee I won't beat myself up if I have some.  I'll also really cut down on sweets but I've still gotta have something every once in a while...I'm not going to let myself sit on the couch with a 1lb bag of gummy bears...THAT will be a challenge!

  • Amen to that....I (and DH who was standing there) couldnt believe how fast i inhaled that chocolate muffin. Like some rabid, sugar deprived animal! LOL!

  • I think as long as you are not drinking, smoking, or doing drugs you are fine.  My mother and dh would not let me have any chocolate because of the caffeinne.  Grrr - it was Christmas time too.

  • Is there a certain diet you are supposed to follow during IVF? I have cut out caffeine completely along with alcohol a while ago. I have been trying to eat as healthy as possible. I am still eating carbs and the occasional sugar. Since I cut out coffee, I have been drinking the low sugar Nesquik just as a little something. Also hot chocolate. Is the caffeine content in chocolate too high?

Did any of your REs put you on a certain diet during IVF?

    Thanks!

I was basically told the same thing. They don't even want me eating chocolate because of the caffeine. I guess it can restrict uterine blood flow and I don't even have blood flow issues. It sounds like every RE is different. GL

  • Only thing I can't have is alcohol.  I've definitely been enjoying sweets every day.  My RE said the key is to relax as possible - if enjoying a sweet or chocolate will help you relax, so be it!

    My TTC Journey:
Dx: Hypothalamic amenorrhea / mild PCOS (Pretty much a hormone/ovulatory disorder)
Progesterone to induce period w/ the goal of Clomid - never got period (September 2011). Referred to RE.
Femera - never responded to the meds (December 2011)
Clomid with TI - BFN (February 2012)
    Injectables (Menopur) - hyperstimulated/canceled (March 2012)
Injectables #2 (Menopur) with TI- BFN (May 2012)
IVF - OHSS (transfer canceled), but 11 frozen! (June 1012)
    FET - 1 transferred on 8/09/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 350.3; Beta#2: 365; Beta#3: 157. Biochemical pregnancy.
    FET # 2 - 1 transferred on 11/01/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 337; Beta#2: 769. BFP!!! 1st ultrasound 11/28/12 showed heartbeat, but measuring 5 days behind. 2nd ultrasound 12/05/12 - miscarriage.
    FET # 3 - 1 transferred on 1/24/13. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): BFN.
    FET # 4 - 2 transferred on 3/21/13.  Bet #1 (11dp5dt): 660; Beta#2: 1,300.  Miscarried at home @ 6 weeks.

    FET # 5 - 2 transferred on 7/12/13.  Beta #1 (10dp6dt): BFN.
Attempted an IUI in late August 2013, but didn't respond well.
IVF #2 with PGS - Stims started 10/28 with retrieval on 11/11.  Of 14 mature eggs, 10 fertilized, 4 made it to Day 5 & 1 made it to Day 6. We did PGS on the Day 5 embryos, and 3 of 4 were normal. Had ET on 11/17. Beta #1 (8dp6dt): 203. Beta #2 (10dp6dt): 618. We since had two ultrasounds & on 12/19, our RE released us to the OB.  On 1/02/14, we had our first ultrasound with the OB where we heard the heartbeat.  We are so thankful for the blessing & crossing every finger & toe for a healthy & successful pregnancy.

It's a little deceiving- I was 98% sure that it was a BFN for half of them (although there's always there's always that sliver of a hope that f*cks with you).  That's probably why I can't see investing in change for the wait.  That would have been 60 weeks, more than a year of my life without chocolate or alcohol.  I think not!  I will be a little more careful during our wait after IVF, but nothing crazy.  But I'll take the good wishes, I hope this is the cycle too!  Good luck with yours!
