XP: Bottle Question

When did your LO start holding a bottle on their own? E is still BF at home, and takes pumped milk in a bottle at DC. But I just saw them put her down on a boppy with her bottle by herself. And she held it up and drank it on her own. I don't think I like this. Am I being irrational and not prepared for her to grow up? Or is this too early to be doing that? I think this might be why she has been so fussy and irritated lately about my slower letdown, if they are letting her control the bottle on her own. WDYT?

Re: XP: Bottle Question

  • I think the speed she gets the milk has more to do with the nipple than her holding the bottle.  DS has been able to hold a bottle for a couple of weeks, but he doesn't really do it for a whole feeding.  He can hold it up for a while, but gets distracted and then drops it.  At my daycare you have to give them permission to let LO feed themselves.  I feel a lot like you do, I still want him held during a feeding so I dont allow them to sit him down with a bottle unwatched.

She's been on the slowest flow avent nipple since she started on bottles.  But has only recently started fussing when my milk isn't quick enough for her.  My dc has never mentioned letting LO feed herself, so I am a little concerned this has happened without any discussion.  Or maybe I'm overprotective and crazy.  I don't know!
