Missed MIL Monday - so I extended it!

Yesterday was a whirlwind and I missed MIL monday - so I'm venting today!

MIL doesn't like smash cakes. She thinks its disgusting. And so we told her we are going to do the smash cake in the kitchen during the party (it's at her house). She goes "ugh - whatever you guys want. I hate smash cakes. It's so gross" with an attitude. And so I said (nicely) "That's fine - just don't say anything about that on her birthday" and she gives me the death stare and says "I wouldn't say anything!"

THANKFULLY my knight in shining armor DH noticed and made her apologize for the look. This woman makes a fuss about EVERYTHING she doesn't like - dramatically too! She absolutely would have started screaming "eww - so disgusting" while my daughter was having her first bday cake - I can bet my life on it!

I don't get it, how is it any different then giving the kid a cupcake or a piece of cake and letting them go to town? Is it giving her cake that she finds so offensive? People have been doing that since the beginning of time.
