I have gained 13 lbs and I am 17 weeks pregnant. My dr said its a little more than wanted me to gain. I am a vegetarian and a very healthy eater. I've been allowing myself some ice cream, sweets etc but nothing crazy. I also have been active with yoga and walking. They say some women just gain more in the beginning and that will level out. Anyone else having the same issue ? I was bummed out all day over it.
Re: Too much weight gain by 17 weeks?...
Some women just tend to gain more. I gained a lot with my first two - 55-60 lbs total. I was determined not to do that again. This time around I'm working out 3-4 days/week and eating much healthier.
I was up 6 lbs at 17-18 weeks. Then DH and I went on a cruise and the holidays happened... Now at 31 weeks, I'm up 31 lbs. I'm sure I'll gain 40 lbs by the end of this pregnancy. It's not the 30-35 lbs that was my goal, but there's really nothing I can do about it. I'm still exercising and still trying to eat healthier. I'm just hungry all.the.time.

same here... I gained alot- about 10 pounds first trimester, but in the end only gained 28 pounds (started at 130 pounds, 5'3"). This pregnancy was similar, I gained alot in the beginning (started at 125) but will probably only gain 25. Just stick to healthy eating, small meals and lots of snacks. I got in trouble with eating alot before bedtime. I have backed that off when I know I have had enough food/calories for the day even if I feel like snacking (sometimes the cravings get the best of me).
Don't worry. Stay active. Swimming is great exercise during pregnancy.
How do you manage to gain so little in the last trimesters? Once I hit the 3rd trimester, I'm up 1-2 lbs a week no matter what I do. From 28-30 weeks I worked out 3-4 days/week, chased after a 2.5 yo, made sure to choose healthy snacks, and I still managed to gain 2 lbs.
I suppose it doesn't help that I have 9 lbs babies, and 3rd trimester is the time baby really starts to gain weight.

I agree with the last post... I think it is just how we are all different. I was swimming about 45 min pretty hard throughout the second trimester and gained less and then the last 3 weeks was nauseated again and ate less (still kept the goal calories)... I was still enjoying the good stuff... reese's cup, ice cream... I wasn't all that healthy:)

That may be a few pounds more than the ideal but it's nothing to worry about. I am 20 weeks and gained 15 pounds so far which is also a few over. But if I am hungry, I am going to eat! Remember, we've also been pregnant through the holidays so that might have something to do with it. I say eat when you're hungry but just try to focus on lower calorie nutrient dense foods like salads and soups and fruit.. That's what I am doing. If I am craving something though I am probably going to have that too. Don't worry about it!
this post made me feel better.. i was doing well and then th holidays hit! I'm up 23 lbs and i'm 23 wks! yikes! I told my close friend today tho and she was surprised i've gained that much so i'm hoping i dont look like i've gained 23! haha..
anyway- i'm trying to eat better and exercise. but we'll see how it goes.
FYI- I only gained 25 with DS but I started 20 lbs heavier in the beginning with him too.
