Quick question for BDTD--Newborn in pack and play?

Hi ladies! Quick question.

Can a newborn sleep on the regular mattress of a play yard? I HAD planned on buying one with a bassinet feature, but my MIL generously bought us one that, unfortunately, does not have a bassinet.

Might sound like a silly question, but I know it's important to get a FIRM mattress for a crib... Is the mattress of a play yard going to be good enough?

TIA!

  • The mattress is the exact same, it removes from the bottom of the PnP and attaches up higher if it has the bassinet feature.

    So yes, it's fine.

  • Without the bassinet feature its quite low to bend down to and hard to set an infant down gently, but I don't see it as unsafe its the same, my daughter would not/will not sleep in the pnp she likes to play in it at times but she never would sleep in it...I don't know why.

    LOUD NOISES!

M won't sleep in her PnP either, she would when she was younger but now that she's bigger it's just too uncomfortable, at least that would be my guess.  She loves to play in it, but she prefers to sleep in her Pea Pod travel bed when she doesn't have her crib.

  • My daughter slept in her playpen til she was 9 mos old. The mattress did lift up to a bassinet feature and I used it until she was about 5 months. The only thing I could see being difficult is you having to bend over so low but as far as the baby, just fine.
