NBR: glueing candy canes to vase

I have a large square glass vase that I want to use in a Xmas-y centerpiece. I'm thinking of glueing/sticking candy canes all around it's exterior and then filling it with white carnations but am worried the glue wouldn't be completely removable; I don't want to ruin my vase.

Has anyone done something simlar and can tell me if the glue will come off?

  • I used my hot glue gun, it was a PITA at first but it comes off. I used a blade (i can't remember what they are called)

  • Ditto hot glue gun.  You should be able to get that off with a little elbow grease.

  • I agree - a hot glue gun should do the trick.  Post-holidays, just be careful when you remove them so you don't scratch the glass.  I would attempt to soften the glue with something like Goo-Gone before scraping.
  • Hmmm....."PITA" and "elbow grease" sound like too much work for me!! lol Maybe I can find another way to affix them. Or just use fake carnations and pop them in a vase filled with red and white candy????
  • It might be a pain in the arse but might be easier to remove than glue - if you got some of that velcro tape and put it around the vase then put pieces on the candy canes and stuck them on, that might work.
  • Just to show you my inspiration-pic....I think this looks SO pretty!!! Let's see if this pip works.....

  • OOOH I love it... better idea now that I see it. put a rubberband around the vase and slide the candy canes in, the tie the ribbon to hide the rubberband. Then you don't have to worry about getting it off.

Oh HELLZ yeah! Thank you for that very wonderful (and EASY) idea!! I can't wait to get the candy and flowers today :)

  • what about just using a 2 sided tape?  Should only need a couple pieces per candy cane

I did consider that right before you posted this response but then I'd still need to get the sticky bits off the glass again and while that does sound easier than hot glue, it is so not as easy as the rubberband idea!! :)
