Steri strips reaction

So I've had an allergic reaction to the steri strips they used for my c section. They've burned me so badly but that's not the worst part. It's the itching, I can't take it. Has this happened to anyone and what have you used to relieve the itch?? Please help!!

Re: Steri strips reaction

  • Yes!! It was AWFUL. I ended up with pus and infection related to it. I just took the steri strips off as soon as it started probably a bit too early in all honesty. I just washed with soap and water a lot and tried to keep it as dry as possible.

  • I'm having a reaction to the adhesive that was on the dressing. They are putting a cream on it and I can take Bendadryl as needed for the itching. They said to avoid the cream on the incision though and no soap or water.

  • I also had a terribly itchy allergic reaction to the steri strips over my incision.  When I went back for my 1-week post partum visit, the doctor took all the strips off and told me I could use Benadryl cream to relieve the itch.

Depending on your reaction to oral Benadryl, you can also take that.  Personally, it makes me very drowsy and puts me to sleep so I didn't feel comfortable taking it since I needed to take care of DD and I'm BF, so I didn't want to be too out of it to feed her.

  • I had a reaction to the elastoplast dressing applied in the morning after my csec. I was given some cream to take the swelling down but it was so much more uncomfortable than my incision. It took almost a month for the redness and swelling to go down. I was scared it was going to scar.
