I'm from the Aug 2012 board but wanted to post this question here since my DD will be 11 months around the time we plan our vacay in July. I know quite a few of you have already gone on vacation with your LO's. Lately my DD has been really fussy in her carseat. We plan on taking ours on the plane and I can only imagine if she's that fussy later on.. she has quite the vocal cords. Everyone who hears her cry for the first time always comments on how loud she is. Does it get better as they get older? We were really hoping to travel this year while she hasn't mastered walking yet. Has anyone gone cross country? We're planning on flying from Hawaii to New Jersey with a layover in San Francisco for maybe an hour or two. Is it insane? Any words of encouragement? Thanks so much! ![]()
Re: Cross country travel
Unfortunately, around this age is a little difficult for travel. We traveled a month ago for Christmas, she had a hard time on the 3 hour leg, but did fine on the 1 1/2 hour one. The problem is they are so alert and squirmy, it's just hard for them to sit still. IF you are lucky enough to have a LO that enjoys watching TV, this would help immensely. I know some others on here who traveled and did well, so it's kind of luck of the draw. One thought might be to travel later in the evening so they will just sleep the whole time? That was our original plan but the airline changed the flight times on us
ETA: As for teething, usually that's not as bad as you would think, in my experience at least...
That said, her restlessness doesn't keep us from traveling; we just have to get craftier! Purchase a few new books and toys to introduce her to. L loves tactile books right now... Karen Katz lift the flap and Usbourne Touchy Feely books keep her occupied for quite some time. She also loves ripping up the SkyMall. Snacks are key... L will eat yogurt melts, Cheerios, raisins, and cheddar bunnies one at a time for a good 30 min. And TV... We don't normally do screen time, but we bust out the iPad on flights if she gets super fussy.
