Moving on to LAP surgery, then IVF

I've only posted a few post on this board, and felt like I didn't belong here...but after today, I think I might....Well, I went into the RE for the first time today, I had HSG last Monday, and was told by OB/GYN that only my left tube was blocked, so I went in very hopeful. Got into exam room, did ultrasound, and Dr. said the right was also blocked. She looked at the Film from HSG to confirm. She wants to do LAP surger, and then most likely move on to IVF. I'm going through EVERY emotion there is right now!! I'm so thankful for my DH! He is being wonderful, and I often think he doesn't deserve to go through this too. UGH I know this isn't the end of the road, and there are people in a lot worse situations, but it's still hard. YKWIM?

Re: Moving on to LAP surgery, then IVF

  • PAIF response:

    Good luck.

Tip about the lap surgery: I was bloated for days afterward. Invest in some comfy pants...maybe with a drawstring that you can wear loose.

this. i totally stole my husbands scrub pants during both the lap recovery and during ivf.

i know it is overwhelming right now, but it actually is much better than continue trying things that will never work for you. it sounds like with ivf, you have a fighting chance that you haven't had before!

this board is a great resource and we will help you. you are stronger than you think.

  • AHH thanks for the tips already! I am a teacher, and am going to try and schedule the surgery for a Thursday morning, and be back at work on Monday....is that realistic? I've never had any kind of surger before, so don't know how my body will react. I'm also Type 1 diabetic, and can't afford any kind of infection! Great to know about the pants! My boss says "no blue jeans" he didn't say anything about draw string pants! HA!!

    Oh, good tip!
It's colace or peri colace. It's an OTC stool softener.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work still bloated on the following Monday.
  • Good luck with your lap!
I did it two times already and it was ok. I was sore for a week or so but able to carry on with normal activities. The colace idea is great!

  • I had my lap on a Thursday and ended up needing to take Monday off too. I had quite a bit removed though - both tubes, a right rudamentary horn, some endometriosis and a large ovarian cyst.

    Good luck to you!!

  • Another lap tip: a heating pad helped me a ton with the gas pain in the shoulder after the lap. Hang in there, and Good Luck.
  • Thanks! I've heard of the shoulder hurting...that's so weird!
