Question for those who used an agency (DIA)

How long did you wait before you had an opportunity for your profile to be shown?

I am just curious to see what is typical, or the variety of answers that you ladies have to this. We haven't been waiting very long at all, but I was just wondering how many times, how often, and how long before you had your profile shown. I'm guessing that the number of EMs at your agency and your levels of openness will all be different, so please tell me about your experiences.

Re: Question for those who used an agency (DIA)

  • Our paper profile(like a magazine) was made pretty much after we paid our fee.  It has gone out about 2 times in the last month.  We are just about the complete our home study and will be official after our CPR class in 2 weeks.  Then, our profile will go up on their website and can be viewed by birth moms that have contacted the agency.

  • We started our paperwork in early April, went active in late July, were shown for the first time in November, shown for second time in mid January, which was our match. Baby born early February.

There was one expecting couple we were not shown to due to their preferences in December. There were two other expectant moms who chose to parent prior to profiles being shown.

We were with a small agency, doing only about 8-10 placements a year.

We were open to letters/pictures and possibly visits. Our current arrangement with our BM is just that, with one visit a year.

I became a mother because of adoption. She is the absolute love of my life. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker formerly known as sw_in_kc
  • Our agency sent out our profile to a few EMs per month when we matched with their preferences.
  • We weren't told ahead of time unless something didn't fully line up with our profile key and they wanted to run it past us.

I said I'd check in every 4-6 weeks. After 6 weeks I checked in, and they apparently had monthly tallies of how often we were shown. I think she said we'd been shown 3-4 times, that it was very good, and that was it. After that things got hectic and I didn't check in formally.

Maybe a month or so later we got a call about a situation that didn't fully line up with our profile key. We were given the specifics and asked to call our SW back within the next 12 hours or so to say whether we'd want to be shown.

The next call, maybe a week later, was The Call.

Long story short, no idea how long our wait was. I actually preferred not knowing when it was happening.

ETA: Our agency was averaging about 150 placements/year in 6 states

  • We were shown 1 week after we were home study approved. It was also the one that brought us our failed match.

In the 2 months since HS approval, we've been presented with 6 different situations and had our profile shown 4 times.

Our agency is super small with only 12-15 families in the waiting pool at any given time.
