Potty Training

Help!

Our DD has been able to tell us that she's gone "poo-poo" for the last few weeks.  She'll sit on her potty if I'm sitting on the adult toilet.  But whenever we ask her if she wants to try to go potty (when she wakes up, before eating, after eating, before/after nap and before bedtime) she always says "no" with a little whine (the whine only comes after the 2nd time asking).  I don't want to be too pushy, but she's showing the signs of being ready!

It's almost like she's afraid to sit on the toilet.

Any suggestions?  TIA!

Re: Help!

  • We are potty training right now, and my daughter will never actually tell us when she has to potty. It's hard to not seem pushy to them, and you don't want them to think negatively of the potty, otherwise it is just ten times harder. We have gone to rewarding her when she does. If she is playing and says she doesn't have to pee, we'll offer her a thing of fruit snacks if she tries, and if she still doesn't want to go try, I just get dramatically excited and grab her hand, and she gets really excited to go. When she does go, I do a ridiculous round of applause and she gets to pick a sticker to put on her potty chart. It has really made the whole process fun for both of us, and by the second day her accidents have been down to maybe 1 a day. Good luck though!
