October 2011 Moms

Re: Oh no she didn't.....

  • That seemed to mostly be a judgment of some of the comments, not sharks' original confession.  And the replies were pretty reasonable.

  • She's a narrow minded idiot. Nobody ever said anything about letting your baby scream or cry for a half hour so you could catch up on HIMYM. What the article was referring to was the fact that as moms, sometimes we need to know it's ok, and doesn't make us bad mothers, if we need to step away for a minute or five to breathe, take a hot shower, drink a cup of coffee, even if the baby is having a fit, because that's just what you need in that moment to maintain your cool and sanity.

If she is so sorely lacking in empathy in that realm, I feel bad for her.

My thoughts exactly. I'd like to see how she'd handle a colic baby.

  • One woman did comment that it was fine to leave your baby to cry so you could have sex or veg out (which could be interpreted as watching TV).  A little bit strange.  As most of the others replied to her, it's not a problem to let your child cry for a few minutes because you're doing something important or if you need to regroup.  But you also have to notice that this was on the Attachment board, which is probably colouring the OP's opinion.

I agree with you, HA.  But as one woman pointed out in the comments on the article, TB posted these as "unbelievable confessions".  That's the kind of thing that makes new moms feel guilty for not sterilizing the pacifier every time it drops or for letting baby cry for 2 minutes while you go to the bathroom.  These aren't things that need to be confessed: they're truths of motherhood.

ITA LCass. I feel a stuff like this just feeds into more mommy guilt (like we all don't have enough of that!)

    Huh? I don't get it?

Some of the "unbelieveable confessions" were from some of our Oct2011 moms. The post linked references those confessions.

Question: Does TB take these off of FFFC?

Thanks Missy. If I didn't step away every now and then, I think I would have done something stupid a long time ago.

  • It is the AP board so what do you expect! Smile Although I do not judge AP Moms I am not surprised that they judge the parenting of non-AP Moms. Sharksfan...you deserved that coffee! tell them to shove it!

HA, it sound like everyone who responded to the post agrees with you. I'm not quite sure why this thread is raising ire- I don't see anything posted that any of us disagree with. Everyone said letting your kid cry for a minute or two is fine. No one even called out Sharksfan- they said they'd grab a cup of coffee.  The tv thing was in response to the OP who mentioned she wouldn't let her kid cry to watch an episode of Downton Abbey, and I'm pretty sure none of us would either.

  • I post over there sometimes so I went ahead and responded. Thankfully it looks like everyone who also replied said it wasn't neglectful to leave your baby for a few minutes to regroup. Some people are just more extreme than others. ::shrug::

I'm curious about this too.  HA, Winebaby, Sharks...did any of you actually submit an answer to a question, or did TB just take one of your random posts and put it up as a confession?  Cause that seems really questionable.

No, I didn't submit anything. I wrote that in a FFFC back when R was like 3 or 4 months old. Careful, ladies, everything you've written on here is up for grabs!

  • OP has posted here a few times and introd at one point.  I remember her siggy.  Low count numbers make us suspicious, OP.  It seems she was wagging her finger at the AP post, not Sharks or HA.

OP- you better come out and play more often so we know who you are, otherwise, it weirds us out when lurkers post out of the blue.

I think the "she" in the OP's title is referring to the poster on the AP board, beautiflaw, who made the thread saying these comments were horrible.

I don't think SS1639 made this post to embarrass Sharks or anyone else here, I took it as her defending Sharks and saying that beautiflaw was off base.

I also recognize SS1639, though she doesn't post often.

This is exactly how I took it too, and I recognize OP. She doesn't post much, but I definitely recognize her siggy.

I didn't read the post on AP because well, it's AP. I kind of think as AP like the Prius of parenting. And by that I mean most people care about the environment but they don't need to advertise it by driving a go-cart on the freeway.

Crystal, my Prius challenges you to a race!  That car can MOVE and saves us $100+/month on gas.  Stick out tongue

And what was the point of posting this? To embarrass Sharks? Fail.

I don't understand who the "she" is in oh no SHE didn't. Was it sharks? The OP? Confusion ensues.

This.  OP, who exactly are you trying to call out here?  If it's Sharks, we are going to have some issues.
