Rasberry Leaf Tea - Safe?

Hi Ladies - everything I have read about it is positive....just wondering if there are any downsides?

Thanks!

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

Re: Rasberry Leaf Tea - Safe?

  • It can cause Braxton hicks contractions unless they get regular it's nothing to b concerned about it's just the uterus toning up.

  • I've been taking it since I was six or seven week pregnant and I have had no issues. I also used to take it regularly off and on for years before pregnancy.

I only get BH if I am not drinking enough water (not after I drink RRL tea) and they are super light and easy BH that feel nothing like menstrual cramps and only happen one at a time with at least half a day between them.

I had some uterine cramping in first tri, but I hear that is normal without RRL tea too, so I don't think I've had any issues with RRL tea at all.

I brew my tea strong in big batches with horsetail, nettle and alfalfa with some hibiscus for taste. I then put it in the fridge in bottles to drink hot or cold.

  • My CPM (also an herbalist) wanted me to drink at least a quart of RRL, nettle, alfalfa tea every day of my pregnancy. It is perfectly safe.
  • RRL is in my prenatal vitamins!

  • It is safe in small daily doses... ie like a teaspoon of loose tea brewed in once cup of water a day. There are cautions against it only because if you take large amounts then it will cause real contractions (which is not good if you are early on). If you're overdue I've seen it recommended to drink like 6 cups of tea in a day to try to get things moving. Myself, I've taken it daily (the one teaspoon) since 5-6 weeks because I had terrible terrible cramping. It does tone your uterus and it made the cramping go away. When I slacked off taking it, I found I was having really bad Braxton-Hicks (like every 10 minutes) and when I started taking it again regularly I found that cleared up. I still have BH but maybe once every couple hours.

  • I was at risk for preterm labour with an irritable uterus so my Dr. said absolutely not to drink it until baby was done cookin.'
